Rabies shot... How old does a pup have to be to get his rabies shot? My vet told me that I would have to wait until he is at least 6-8 months. Is this true? |
I think Georgie was younger than that but I could be wrong need to look in his file to see. Georgie was 18 weeks when I got his rabies shot. |
Topher was about 20 weeks, but it could have been done at 16 when I brought him in for his vet check visit. I don't know why your vet would say 6-8 months. |
my vet also says six months. I waited until Ceeby was ten months old because he is so tine. Dixie is six months old now and I am going to wait on hers too. |
rabies mine was about 12-15 weeks when she got hers. i use to think they also had to be 6 months old. |
Kona is scheduled to get hers at our next visit. She will be just over 18 weeks then. |
Both of mine got theirs at 4 months and did fine |
I wait until they are about six months old. I like to get them done before they are spayed. |
My vet did Dylan's at 4 months and he didn't have any side effects. The boosters shots always make my yorkies feel really bad for about 24 hours. Dylan would even yipe if I tried to kiss him. Do they bother anyone elses yorkie? The vet told me I could give him 1/4 of a baby aspirin last time and it helped a lot. |
I know if a dog is going to fly or travel where you need a health certificate they'll have to get a rabies shot if they are 12 wks old or older. If not I would wait until they are 6 months. |
My Izzie was so small (still is) that I'm waiting. She is 19 weeks old now and weighs 2 lbs 5 ozs. I will probably wait until she is 6 months old to get her rabies. My other babies had no problems except for the lump where the shot was given, but they were not as tiny and petite as Izzie. |
