Calling all Male Yorkie Owners~~ I have a female Yorkie with a darling puppy cut, but her coat is wavy and doesn't grow very prettily. I also have a male who has a gorgeous, long straight black coat. The problem is that he wets on his hair when he goes to the bathroom. Is there anything that will help other than cutting his coat? He's tall (long-legged) and his body is long. I'm afraid he'd look ridiculous in a puppy cut. I bathe him once a week and I'm afraid if I bathed him more often that his skin would dry out....but he smells like urine! UGH!:thumbdown |
Biskie has long hair and we are working on growing it longer. He doesn't hike, and to keep his parts clean, we trim the underbelly in a "sanitary" clip as the groomer said. Basically, shave just the underside around his man parts to keep him dry and tidy!! I suppose I can email you a pic if you need a better idea of what we did.... |
I have the same prob I have even trimmed his belly but somehow he is still damp on his belly and sometimes on his hair on the side..?? I figure Oh well..I don't think there is anything else I can do?? |
I shave Scampers around that area to where there is a few inches shaved so there is no hair around his privates. I also use that cowboy magic detangler/shine, it is suppose to repel urine and dirt and so far it has been doing its job. |
I have 3 little boys, and all 3 have their boy parts clipped, and I also use puppy wipes after they pee. It does keep the smell down and I know that they are clean there too...:dogsm3: |
My Joey is in a belly band all the time in the house except for nighttime, so I don't have to worry about that. With three females in the house and not being neutered, he will hike everywhere. I wanted to train him to go outside, but we have way to many hawks flying around. So this works for us. |
I never had this problem.. don't know why? But I suggest trimming that are alot.. and maybe shaving his belly the inside, and use baby wipes when he's done. And I would not bathe him more than once a week. |

Your pup doesn't need to be bathed constantly. You can just lift him up to the sink and hose off the area that he pees on - with just plain water - and dry him off with a towel. This helps to keep that area free of the urine smell. Good luck! Carol Jean |
