Pet insurance anyone??? I was wondering does anyone here have pet insurance for their yorkies and if so, what company do you use. Do you think it is worth the money and what exclusions have you noted? Thanks so much in advance, as I am thinking aobut getting a policy on my two guys. |
Good question, this is something I wanted to look into also. |
I was looking into getting pet insurance as well but my husband wouldn't allow it. He offered to pay for everything if anything were to come up. But if I did get the insurance, what he doesn't know won't hurt him. I'm curious to find out more about this. |
some people think it's ridiculous, but i think it's a great idea. you never know what's going to happen. i plan on insuring baxter within the next few months. |
There have been previous post concerning this. We have VPI and it was the greatest investment we have ever done. Lola has broken her leg twice since we got her in November. She has also had some bouts of diahrea. She had to have orthopedic surgery a few months ago on her leg. VPI has more than reimbursed us. We pay $30 a month and they have given way over what we have payed. We have had only one problem with a claim where they sent us $225. We had our vet fax the dr's notes and then they reevaluated it and sent us another $1200. Without insurance, Lola's vet bills would have exceeded $9000. The only exclusion we had was for a cold. I highly recommend VPI and I think it is a great idea for peace of mind. You never know when you might need it. |
Thanks for that info. I'll be signing up Kona today. :) |
I have pet insurance through VPI just like Lola LaRue's mom. I have insured Zoey and her older sister Lola. I love VPI, becuase i'm a single mom. I usually pay anually so I don't have to worry about forgetting to pay every month. :\ i was refered to VPI by my bestfriend who has a American Eskie. I love VPI, they have saved me many vet costs so far. :) |
I have VPI for Cali and she had nemerous expenses in the 10 months that I have had her. I pay 19.00 a month and so far I have submitted over 5,000.00 in bills and got back 850.00. So I am still ahead of the game. A lot of Cali's expenses were not covered due to preexisting, her hypoglycemia was excluded because she had an attack right before her effective date and here later attacks were denied and a lot of her expenses were for Liver shunt which they consider genetic and therefore not covered. I think it is a wise investment because accidents and health issues crop up a lot. |
Just got the comprehensive and wellness plan for Annika and Tiger . . . I have yet to send a claim as have not had a chance . . .but have already heard so many great things about them. I pay about $50.00/month for both and is on automatic deduction so I won't forget! |
i've heard such good things about VPI so i'm gonna get it for Morgan too when i get her in July. I'm going to sign up for it at the end of june so it will be effective when i pick her up mid july. :) won't have to worry about any pre-existing health problems that way |
my friend works in the pr department at a pet insurance company.. not going to name the company, but she told me it wasn't worth it.. but i've read everyone's comments about VPI, and now interested.. can you apply online? and is it only worth it if expensive, unusual health problems come up? my boyfriend thinks i'm overprotective of my puppy, but i take her to the vet whenever i feel like something's wrong or unusual.. when i got her at 8 weeks she had colitis (not sure on the spelling), eventhough the treatment wasn't that expensive, i'm not sure what the future will hold and want to have every available resource for bella.. any info is appreciated :) |
There is a 50.00 per occurance deductible so for small charges it isn't worth it but sure is when they get sick and run up the bills. |

We had a MRI and Spinal Tap done on Jewel. The bill was over $3,000.00 and we received a check from VPI for over $ 1,600.00. In the course of trying to find out what was wrong with Jewel we must have spent close to $4,000.00. I don't know how I could have paid all my bills with out it. The plan cover ANY veterinary ANY where. The doctor does not need to be on any "list". They also have an option to pay the doctor directly if you have made arrangements with the doctor for them to extend credit for their services. The amout of the claim reimbursement depends on the treatment. They do not cover medications. The premium does get higher as the pet ages but they do give mutiple policy discounts. They do exclude any pre-exitsting conditions so get on the plan early in your babies life. It really pays for new puppies needing vaccinations and spay/neuter. From reading posts on other treads, some insurance is limited to certain doctors (such as Petsmart) and I haven't heard very good reports on the AKC plan. Only draw back is YOU have to do all the work. Get the doctor to sign the claim form, fax or mail the claim with a copy of the bill, keep records of the claims you made and follow up on claims that takes a bit longer. We have had claims declined but got them resolved with a phone call. You also have the option to make monthly installment payments or pay for the full year at once. Hope this helps you. Sorry I got a little carried away but the website doesn't give you all the little info you probably want to read about. |
