Frightening kids Ive just been out to the park with Paddy,Megan,my husband and the kids and Paddy has recently started barking a lot at strangers but tonite hes actually terrorised 3 children on the park,he was barking so much at them they ran away screaming, then he chased an old english sheep dog and frightened that away, its owner had to run after it! Then there was an old black lab x and he went mad at it,circling, barking, snapping. He didnt used to be like this, I dont know what has got into him. He did have the snip 10 days ago, could this be causing it? Hes nothing like that at home, hes laid back and never leaves my side, hes great with the kids,we have had him since he ewas 6 weeks old and hes 9 months now. |
Wow, I wish I had some advice for you. I hope someone here can give you some ideas. Hope all goes well. |
Thats strange...maybe he was in a wierd mood or something? See how he acts next time he's in public. |
Maybe he's a little traumatized from his recent snipping. |
His behavior doesn't sound good at all..... Are you letting him loose or letting him run on a long leash when you're in public? Perhaps he needs to be on a shorter leash so you can have more control. Can't imagine why he has changed -- good luck - and hope he gets over behaving this way. It's hard to think that he will change though - without your help and guidance. Carol Jean |
i dont know. but our dogs can be moody and temperamental, maybe he was having a bad day or week. maybe he needs to be on a shorter leash, or group lessons on behavior? |
Paddy I never even take a lead out with me as we drive to the park and park up there I just open the door and we go for a walk! Ive never even owned a long leash as hes never strayed far away, even after yesterday he came back when I walked in the other direction and shouted him. I dont tend to react and run after him when he has an "episode" I just keep walking and shout his name. Megan would never do this shes such a lady! Could it be that he has just got over protective of us??? |
snippey i think maybe he is being protective of you? maybe his hormones are out of whack due to the snipping? i would keep him on a leash until he levels back out and let him know taht behavior isn't acceptable that you don't like it. use a lower growl sounding voice and it may take a little bit but he will catch on you could also reward him when he is being nice maybe a treat toy or belly scratch. hope things get back to normal soon. |
