2nd one Would you wait until your first yorkie was a little older before buying a 2nd one? Or would you get one while they were both puppies? |

As someone that got a second Yorkie (Winky) while the first one (Yoda) was a bit older at four years, I think it's a lot easier to get them as close apart as possible if you do want a second. They will both adapt easier and they'll have more time to play with one another! ;) |
I agree! Get your second one now. I did it and I am having so much fun with them. They fight every now and then just like skin kids. The best part is that they are growing up together. Another funny thing is when one does one thing the other one does it too. My boy is 15 weeks and my girl is 10 weeks. It's hard work but when they both look at you and give you kisses it all pays off! It is true...my little boy was and is still jealous. He is a momma's boy anyway. If I try to play with my girl he jumps right in fronts of her. Lately all he wants me to do is pick him up or lay next to me. I love it!!!! Mimi is a daddy's girl so she doesn't mine. |
I just got my 2nd one. Yogi is 5 months and Dixie is 3 months now. I would definitely recommend that if you are planning on having two, getting them close together. I knew I wanted two and from all that I read and heard, decided if I wanted another one, I'd better do it while Yogi was still young. As they get older, they can get territorial, which can make it difficult for a young puppy and the older puppy for that matter. Plus...it is soooo much fun!! I was so excited to be having two, but closer the time got to when Dixie was coming home, I started panicking a little bit. I mean, TWO PUPPIES?!? I was like "Am I insane?" My husband said the same thing. But all the worry was for nothing. They play with each other so much, that now, they both want to snuggle and sleep on me a lot more!!;) Plus, if you are already taking one out to pee and poop, what's another one? You're already out there!!:D It's a lot of work...feels like I'm constantly picking up after them, as they are running through my house every which way, but there is never a shortage of puppy kisses at my house!! All so worth it... |
Thanks for all your advice. I have the same thoughts. I have a few weeks to convince my bf. 'm going to see a little boy dog this weekend. He'll be ready at the end of this month. At that time Kona will be almost 4 months and (if I get the one I look at) he will be 8 weeks I think. So wish me luck... |
Puppies! If you want two it is better to get them when they are puppies because they can bond better and if you wait until one is older then get another chances are your dog wont accept another and they wont get along!:friendsh: |
How do you deal with an older dog vs the puppy Okay guys, what about me when I don't have that choice. Starsky is 16 months now and I am going to get a little girl. He is going to be so jealous and that is a risk I am going to have to take. Starsky follows me everywhere through the house and just lately since I have started looking for another yorkie, he seems like he is real clingy. Do you think he senses it? I only want to get him a playmate because my beagle is big and almost 9 years old and doesn't entertain Starsky long enough. Plus if I travel, I usually take Starsky with me and I may need to leave him in the hotel for the day and this way he can have a playmate. SOOO, what's the best way to break this in to Starsky?? |

My personal feeling on this topic is a little different. I agree it's probably easier to raise two puppies close in age together but I can't imagine losing two babies close together as they go into their Golden Years. Dan and I decided on a 5 year plan. We planned on adding a new baby every 5 years so as the older babies pass on, we still have others to care for and love. The medical expenses will be spread out over the years since puppies & seniors requires more visits to the vet too. And the insurance will be balanced out over the years also. We got Jewel when Jazzie was 5 yrs. old. Jazzie took to her right away and mothered her from the start. Yes, they had to figure out how to get along but they did just fine. I believe Jazzie actually helped us with potty training Jewel. Just another thing to take into consideration. |
