I have had no problem taking either of our kids anywhere, we go to the grocery store with them, mall, Home Depo, Target, and I know Wal-Mart. I hate Wal-mart and only shop there once or twice a year, but in over a year, no one has EVER told us we couldn't be in the store with our dogs. Wal-Mart sucks anyway. |

Dan is absolutely right! I LOVE THE FRITOS SMELL! I have to admit, I am a "closet" yorkie foot sniffer -- :D I kinda check them out first, I don't like poopy-pee-paws :thumbdown |
Mikey, Baxter looks right at home in his boy-bag! Love it! I am sorry you got "busted". |
I agree with a lot of what some of you have said. I agree with - I love my Yorkie, but I have loved every other dog I have ever had just as much. Yorkies are special for all of us who have them -- but other people's dogs are just as loveable and important to them. And remember -- a lot of us have other dogs besides yorkies that we are just as fond of. I do. I feel sorry for those of you who get separation anxiety whenever you can't take your little pups with you --- but it is totally irresponsible to take them where they aren't allowed. You can talk until you're blue in the face and rationalize as much as you want - but deliberately "breaking rules and regulations" isn't something that grown up, honest, law-abiding adults do. What kind of an example are we setting for our children when we do things like this? **** I don't want the stores I shop at full of dogs.... all shapes, sizes, and temperments.....and all the accidents they might cause.....Yorkies no exception - a lot of you have admitted here that your little Yorkies have bitten people in stores - and have gone to the bathroom in stores also. These are probably two of the main reasons that a lot of public places have the rule "no pets allowed." And - these rules have to apply to all dogs - they can't say "This one is allowed - that one isn't - this one is - that one isn't, etc. Therapy dogs are rightfully allowed to go everyplace. Our dogs are not therapy dogs. Does anyone here have a Yorkie that is a true therapy or service dog - that has been trained as such and that you need with you at all times for a good reason......???????? I doubt it... Carol Jean |
He is sooooo cute and I love the bag. We don't like to leave Max in our motel room by himself so he goes everywhere we do and one of us usually stays in the truck while the other one goes in, if we are someplace that Max isn't allowed. We are working on crate training so we can occasionally go to dinner but haven't gotten there yet (Max is almost 5 months), but eventually hope to be there. |
I think there's a difference between a dog that is carried in a carrier and one that is walking. A dog in a carrier can't hurt anything, or make a mess on the floor, so I don't think it's a big deal. I've never had any problems bringing my dog into a store, and if I were asked to leave, I would. I've never been asked to leave yet. A lot of stores don't mind, and half the time, the employees are the first ones to ooh and ah over my baby. Part of the reason I got a small dog was so I could take her places with me. I wouldn't try to sneak her into a grocery store, but I don't see the big deal in taking her to stores that don't have food or "no dogs allowed" signs. |
i wish the moderators would lock this thread now. all the humor and enjoyment is gone. |
That is tooo funny! Atleast you tried! |
walmart well i think they should be allowed in anywhere personally the small dogs anyways . i have my pets in and out all the time and my foods not contiminated at all but it's against health dep reg or something i guess that's what we were told when i use to work at places like that but i still didn't tell people nope no doggies cause it's not like they stay all day or something :) |

While you have a point about a dog being in a carrier vs. a dog walking around, I know I would be really pist if my dog wasn't allowed in a store because of his size, yet another dog was just because they are in a carrier. It's not fair. |
I completely agree with londonteattime. But I hope I can share this story with you without causing offence to anyone. I used to run a UK charity for blind and partially-sighted people some of whom had conditions that caused hearing loss as well. Many of the members had guide dogs, several of them had hearing dogs and some of them had both. There have been some very heated debates about dogs in public places especially food shops and the lack of consistency in enforcing our laws here. One chap was told to leave a food store because of his hearing dog, yet he was smoking a cigarette at the time and nobody mentioned that. Another had a guide dog that used to sniff, but not mouth, fruit (his favourite treat) in an outside market-stall, where produce is stacked from the ground up, yet nobody objected. It confuses many that they are often allowed to enter places where food is sold/prepared with their current guide dog, yet, when they also have their retired guide dog with them they are told to leave the old guy outside. "There's a hook by the entrance for dogs you know, Sir". A third decided to try an experiment at his local ASDA store. This chain was taken over by Wallmart and is gradually erm... Wallmart-ising itself. He has a huge labrador guide dog and a pet-only Yorkie that must tip the scales at around 4lbs. On walks, the Yorkie is usually to be found trotting happily underneath the lab. (All against the rules so, shhush, please :D). Anyhoooo, he decks "Ivan" out in his guide dog harness and "Goliath" sports an official-looking "I'm his hearing dog" label on his collar that points up to the labrador's belly. OK so it was me who made the label. The ASDA greeter, grinned and turned his back, the staff laughed and called the manager - he cracked up :yelrotflm and allowed the three-some to go about their business. Mikey your original post brought about a wide-ranging discussion. I would be pleased if one of mine did that. BTW I only arrived at this thread having read Jakes' story and decided to read more of your posts. You are a lovely "hooman bean" and any dog would be privileged to have known you. |
I agree with SnowWa. It is against the rules so why break them. Some may think it is cute to sneak them in but it isn't. Things like this make it harder on those of us who take our babies where they are allowed. Doesn't matter if the dog is 4 pounds or 400 pounds. No dogs allowed means just that NO DOGS period! Michelle |
My apologies if the irony of the situation did not travel well to the USA. Fortunately, UK ASDA/Wallmart appreciated the point the chap was trying to make. Now, rumour has it, they are even thinking about allowing "small" dogs in provided they are in a back-pack or somesuch. Just image the problems they are going to have deciding on what is a "small" dog. It could get like the arguments at airports over the dimensions and weights of carry-on luggage ;) Please be assured that was a truly one-off situation albeit part of an ongoing campaign to point out inconsistencies in the UK Disability Discrimination Act. We are talking about sight and hearing impaired people who come up against far, far more discrimination, than discrimination against their dogs, in their day-to-day lives. They have no wish to make matters worse for others, be they pet-dog owners with no disabilities or disabled people who have no dogs. Rules change and occasionally change can be brought about - just needs a heads-up in the right quarters from time to time (in our experience). |
SnowWa- I agree with you totally! Mikey- just because people didn't agree with you, you want the moderators to lock this thread? Come on, be a grown up! |

Sorry but I think it's ridiculous to want moderators to close the thread because some people didn't agree with you! Don't post a MB if you expect everyone to agree with you. It's not going to happen. |
Maybe Mikey feels the thread has grown away from what he intended. Things have a way of getting a life their own on here. But I think telling someone to "grow up" is kind of rude. |
