flea collars? Does anyone use flea and tick collars on their dogs - with or without the external applications? omega |
I heard that flea collars can be toxic to yorkies if they chew on them |
I do not use flea collars on any of my dogs. They are harmful to your pets. They make great spot on products that are alot safer. The only use for a flea collar is to put in your vacuum bag. PS flea collars can also lead to hair loss on dogs neck. |
Flea collar in vacuum bag? Do tell me more, I have never heard of this. And I need to change out my vacuum bag anyway! |
As you vacuum fleas become trapped but when you dump your bag out you just release them back into your house. If you put a flea collar in your vacuum bag they die and you do not release them back into your house. I learned this when I was working as a kennel supervisor at the humane society. I tryed this and it works. That is also where I learned of the dangers of using a flea collar on your pet. PS Flea collars are bad for kittys too. |
I noticed last night that Hobbs had some fleas, so I went to Walmart bc the vet was closed and I couldnt buy any Frontline right then. I read the back of a flea collar box, and it said that it was harmful to human skin, too! Since Hobbs sleeps with us and he gets held quite often, I figured that the flea collar probably wasnt a good idea. I bathed him in flea shampoo and put the frontline on him today. Hopefully that will all nip it in the bud. Good idea about putting the collar in the vaccum! |
Oh I forgot to mention to cut of the metal buckel It will tear up your vacuum bag. |
Flea collars are very bad for cats and dogs. Last summer my MIL put a flea collar on her cat after I advised her not to. Well needless to say she called me crying because her cat lost of the hair around his neck were the flea collar was. He looked kind of silly for awhile, but it did grow back. My vet told me never to use them because some flea collars have been known to cause tumors and irritate the skin. |
