Breeding Hi everyone, I want to know what time I can breed a girl yorkie with a male? :confused:And if When ccan they breed later at any age? |
I am not a breeder, but there is a lot of good info about breeding on this forum if you do a search. There are a lot of really wonderful breeders here. I have learned that you don't want to breed any female until at least her second heat cycle and then you alwsays skip one or two cycles after she has litter before you breed her again. You also need to make sure she is healthy and free of genetic defects which she might be able to pass on to her offspring before making the decsion to breed. Most do not agree with breeding a female who weighs less than 5 lbs. I thnk it would be best to find yourself a "mentor", a local breeder willing to teach you and help you with your first experience if you decide to go ahead and breed your female. |

Definitly wait until her second heat, which will usually be after she turns a year. Socalyorkilvr is right on. My family breeds them and when their female reaches 5 they retire her. Some might say older that will be up to you and your vet. Feed her well and keep up with her routine vet checks and make sure she is genetically suitable to have pups. Mine just had her first litter and it was wonderful. I was nervous all the way up to the delivery. I asked for other peoples experiences or advise just as a support system to make sure I trully knew all I could. Although no one knows everything, combining different opinions helps. Good Luck :) |
