Favorite Treats
 
Hello,
I am wondering for everyone who has a yorkie, what are his or her favorite treats? My Yorkie's favorite treats are Carrots, Apples, Cheese and Grapes (I just found this out). I am trying to find some other "Tasty Treats" for my Yorkie. Any Ideas?

Grapes are on the do not give to dogs list.

My three are wild about the Liver Yorkie Yummies that I make. :D

I have never heard this before. I know that they would need to be cut so not to choke, but is this fruit bad for them?

Yes grapes are toxic to dogs

I read a list of bad food in a Yorkie Magazine recently. That's where I learned about the grapes. I couldn't find it but I found this link. We should probably ask Admin to put a permanent list for us.

Thanks for sharing this list. I had no idea that there were so many things you shouldn't feed a dog. Great idea to have this posted, or a list like this, permanently by admin. Especially with our little furbabies, it wouldn't take much to have grave effects.

I was surprised that liver is on the list. Here's what it had to say:

Many dog treats and prepared foods contain liver so it may surprise you to find liver on the bad foods list. In small amounts liver is good for your dog, but if the liver intake is too high it can cause nutritional problems because liver has a high content of vitamin A. Consumption of this vitamin in large amounts can lead to vitamin A toxicity, or hypervitaminosis A. If your dog eats raw liver or consumes three servings of cooked liver a week it could lead to bone problems. Feeding liver to a dog taking Vitimin A supplements can lead to an overdose of Vitamin A.

Symptoms of hypervitaminosis A are deformed bones, excessive bone growth on the elbows and spine, weight loss and anorexia. If left unchecked, hypervitaminosis A has in some cases caused death

Oliver loves snow peas, carrots, apple, cheerios, watermelon (seedless, of course, and not too much either, or he'll get diarrhea), but I never gave him cheese. I'm sure he'll probably love it, but everyone always says you shouldn't give them cheese, yet most of the doggie treats are either peanut butter (which he does like, btw) or cheese. Is this true? :animal-pa
