Another Yorkie I have a female Sheltie named Mandy who is 13yrs old, I introduced a female yorkie named Keisha about 1yr ago, she is very sweet but is always trying to be the boss of Mandy, one minute she is licking Mandy's face the next time she goes after her growling and barking, Mandy is so patient with her and ingnores her most of the time when she acts like this. In spite of this behaviour Keisha is very attached to Mandy who is slowing down and growing older. My question is I have the opportunity to buy another yorkie the mother is now pregnant I know the parents which they are not breeding again, Mandy will not be around forever and I was planning to get another yorkie, should I take one of these puppies now or just wait, and if I do male or female? I don't want to upset Mandy or Keisha. |
all our dogs have gotten along fine when we introduce others......... but i do know some people on this board have been having problems..... i think it all depends on the dogs personality..... |
This is rrally personal preference. I think as long as your older dog has a safe and protected place to go to get away from the annoying puppy but is still near you, I think it can be managed. |
IF your older dog has a gentle personality and seems to get along, it might do her good. I know that my mom's dog is 12 and usually he is pretty layed back and acts his age, but when Annabelle comes he acts like a puppy again. It seems to lift his spirits. IF you are choosing between male and female I would pick male. Females who are in the home the longest tend to like to be the only one, or at least like it better when there aren't a lot of other females around. They are usually more excepting of the opposite sex. That isn't always the case though. Good luck. |
