Allergies or Behavior????? My Sebastian is a itchy little fellow. He has no fleas and he does not spend a lot of time outside. I just recently got his hair cut really short for the summer but he is so itchy all the time. I have also noticed that in the middle of the night (every night) he wakes up and has this itch attack and he licks and scratches himself so much that he gets the hiccups when he is done . I figure the hiccups is coming from him taking in so much air when he licks. (he licks that long) He sneezes alot and he was making this weird noise yesterday and I had no idea what it was or what to do. Could it be dry skin, allergies, or behavior. Does anyone have any suggestions before I take him to the vet? Does yorkies have the tendency to have allery problems? This is my first yorkie and I am still learning the ropes. |
I think it is allergies. You might shampoo him with an oatmeal shampoo. Your vet may give you meds for him. My Chachi is allergic to fleas so just make sure he doesnt have fleas |
Is he biting at his paws? Reuger did that and I took him to the vet and he was put on meds for allergies then I read on here about corn allergies. Reuger was getting into our outside dogs food and it has a lot more corn in it than the food that he's suppose to eat. We put the dog food up a little higher where he can't reach it and he hardly bites his paws at all anymore. So my suggestion is to check his food for corn. |
It could be allergerys. Does he have a rash or reddend skin? If you just got him clipped he could have razor burn. Just a thought. |
Mitzi was itching all the time and was chewing her paws. We changed the food to eagle pack hollistic lamb & rice and took away her beggin strips which also contain corn. Now she is hardly itching at all. Before we found this solution she found relieve in wearing a cotton t-shirt. For some reason it helped against the itching. A bath with clear water can help too and some allergies medicine. Hope your baby is doing better very soon! :aimeeyork |
Your story sounds very familiar! Our dog was really itchy too. We started giving him baths once a week with oatmeal soap and it took it all away. He hated being dirty - really, he'd get depressed when he'd get dirty! :) But the oatmeal soap was what stopped it all together. A good quality food would probably help too. We noticed a big difference in coat quality and behavior when we switched to better food. |
mine itches behind her ear often, i wonder if its alergies or just a rash , no fleas she was checked out, bringing her back today to check that and little other things. |
I would give your dog some Benedryl for the itching at night until you find out the cause, must be miserable. Good luck.:) |
chester has allergies to something, I do not know what, I have changed his food from royal canin which has corn gluten meal to solid gold which has no corn, wheat, soy, salt or sugar and hs still scratches. I have him on all good treats as well. I stated giving him some addiction canned dog food which is good and I put his grizzly salmon oil on it and it has helped. I also have done teneral p which is from the vet with prednisone and benadryl in it. |

:( Anyway, in the meantime, I'm wondering if changing her shampoo might help...it'll be awhile til we hear results. |
I'd like to know the name of the oatmeal shampoo as well Cali scratches a lot and bites her back foot. |
