Puppy Teeth - Vet Extraction or Natural Loss? Bailey is only 12 weeks old, so I know it doesn't come up for a while, but she is our first Yorkie and the first time we've had a furbaby in the house in over 12 years. How often does it happen that puppy teeth need to be removed by the vet? And when do you know that you need to have them extracted, rather than wait for them to come out naturally? Out last pup was a Miniature Schauzer, and hers all came out naturally. |
With mine my vet did a pre neuter/spay exam and he determined that 4 the canines probably wouldnt come out on their own so he extracted them at the say and neuter |
ive had yorkies for over 20 years and have never had any problem. |
The odds with my Yorkies have been about 50/50. I think it is more common in the smaller ones. I usually wait until about 8 months and then have any remaining baby teeth extracted. I've even waited until 10 months without having any problems. By just looking at her mouth, it is easy to tell when they have two sets. If you are still seeing any doubles at 8 months and they are not loose then you are probably going to have to have them extracted. |
Rocky just had 13 teeth extracted, and he is 10 months old. He had double rows of teeth on top and bottom, and they were not coming out on thier own. |
