retained baby teeth
 

Today i called the vets and booked Duke in to have 6 baby teeth extracted. He is going in on Tuesday 6th June and Im so nervous. :( Im not sure what to expect as none of my babies have ever retained their baby teeth:confused: It is going to cost £110 is that good price?

what would that be in american dollars , do you know?

has your puppy been fixed already? usually vets pull the retained baby teeth when the puppy is spayed or neutered. it makes it easier on the puppy so it doesn't have to go under anesthesia too often.

No Duke is a stud dog so he wasn't neutered, I am worried about the anaesthetic it will be his first time going under! :eek: yeah i used my converter and it works out at $204.29 (i think) lol :)

hmm, that's a little bit pricey but since he's having 6 teeth pulled they probably put in extra for longer anesthesia. it might be cheaper when its over or it might be more expensive, depending on how long it takes to extract all the teeth. he'll be fine :thumbup:

OMG! You may want to call around to diff vets. Paris is going in Monday for 5 teeth extracted for $35 total. That's a big jump to your price!!

I live near Balto and that is about the cost...I mean the one in UK..as I would pay. My vet does pre-op blood work and ALWAYS uses iso or sevoflurane GAS which is a bit extra. Vet charges are high in my area but if you like and trust your vet, you pay what they charge.
Your boy will be fine and all you need to worry about is some soft food for the first evening...

Oh my gosh, that is a big jump! I thought I was getting an okay price,but now I am not so sure! I have been with my vet for years, and do feel comfortable with him and he is a good vet. I might call around other vets and get quotes. :(

Thanks, I am confident with my vet and trust him 100%, I would rather pay more money for my own piece of mind! Do you have any advice on soft food? Duke is the fussiest eater at the best of times! :)

My little guy had 6 baby teeth pulled and was neutered 2 weeks ago today ...
I browned some hamburger and mixed it with rice ...he LOVED it ...He did really well .. try not to worry ..Oh BTW it cost me $250 USD for the neuter, teeth, I had a chip put in too .. and pre-op bloodwork.

Thanks for the suggestion,i dont think I have ever seen hamburger over here! apart from mcdonalds. I will go to the shops tomorrow and see if i can get some,I expect Duke will like that, it will be something different so there is a good chance of him eating it. thanks :)

I'm sure ground turkey or pork would be fine too if you can't find hamburger ... WHat do you Brits fill your taco shells with? :p

$35????? how is that possible? anesthetsia alone costs more then that and each extraction is usually between 18 and 35 dollars. is your vet not charging you for something or is he not putting paris under anesthesia? i would question him. I've never heard of a dental extration of 5 teeth for ONLY $35.

LOL I cant imagine life without hamburger or tacos. You are going to have to try a taco sometime. They are good.

Oh and I dont think that price you are paying is too bad. Im in Indiana and the prices are cheaper here and it still costs over a hundred dollars for the anesthia alone. I dont know what the extractions would cost because mine were done at their spay/neuter and the vet didnt charge for it

Jaxon just had 2 baby teeth removed yesterday and the total bill was $90 USD. I didn't have the pre-surgery bloodwork done. He is right back to his old self today - even eating crunchies and working on chew sticks!

Yes, they put them under. The vet only charges for the anesthesia. The teeth are pulled free of charge, clip her nails at the same time, also free of charge and don't charge an office visit for the surgeries. We use this vet for all surgeries and a few other things as our regular vet states they do the smaller dogs much more often (and they are closer to us). I did call around a while ago when I got Zaylee's teeth done. The other vets ran around $35-40 for anesthesia and approx $5 a tooth. Even though they are even closer (10 min instead of 1/2 hour - our regular vet is 45 min away!) I would rather go to the vet my regular one wants us to go to. Perhaps it's just a lot cheaper for this sort of thing around us. I'm not sure how much a fix would cost though (I think females are around $65 - so that would be 65 for the spay and $35 for the anesthesia) .....

Not to get off track, but I must say that my regular vet is the bomb! I took in four adults and one puppy...four heartworm test and checkups, one regular puppy checkup, one urine test and 6 months heartworm supply for four dogs for $165! They never even charge a walk-in fee! I have spent a LONG time finding a vet that I trust and to get such a great price on everything is such an added bonus! We do drive and hour an half all together to get there and back, but it's so worth it! I think that perhaps we also get a deal since I have went there so long, we have a lot of dogs and my step-mom brings her dog there too. The vet remembers everything...I thought to be sneaky and looked in her folder to see if she wrote down things like the dogs dislikes or likes..not there...she remembers it all! Now that I am writing all this I think I am going to send her a present from my babies!!

You are getting a very good deal. Jack is due for one canine removal and it will be $250 smackaroos! Ouch!!! It is important to feel comfortable with your Vet, after all you are entrusting him to the care of your little furbaby.

Chicken works good also. I boil the meat and prepare the rice according to package directions. But watch out...your furbaby will love it! I had a bit of a time switching back over to dry after the boiled hamburger/chicken/rice feast.

Good luck on Tuesday. It will probably be harder on you than your little one!

Wow, I want your vet!!! It would be a really long trip to get there though, you are so lucky to have such a great vet!! I have one that I have been using for years and I have to drive 50 minutes to get there, I like them, they even let you charge for emergencies or unexpected surgeries, and they are relatively cheaper than alot of vets. The only thing is they are not a big business, they are the only vet in a very small down and they don't do alot of the care like a bigger one, you can't even get a ultrasound for a dog and they don't know much about breeding, don't have the big equipment such as Catscans MRI and other stuff. They do extract teeth and I think it is around the same price as yours. I guess I will have to have two vets one for minor and simple procedures and another for the bigger and difficult procedures. So I guess I will have to start searching for another vet, too bad yours is too far away:(

wow, Ive seen several post about these lil babies teeth. When do they usually lose them. Kizzy didnt even have a tooth until she was over a month old and she is just now 4 months and she still has 2 she is that are not quiet up to the correct level yet. I didnt not realize they lose their teeth that quick. So about how old are they when they start this?

18 teeth Aww poor little Lola, I hate having things like this done, but I know it's for the best! I hope it all goes well, thanks for the well wishes :)

:cheer: Duke is back from the vets and everything went fine :cheer: I took him in at 8.45am and picked him up at 2.30pm. He was so excited to see me when I went to collect him. He has been his gorgeous little self, playing in the garden and eating fine! Im so pleased its done and finished!!!!!! :D
