cats 2 Attachment(s) so we just got our puppy Lola a couple weeks ago. Now, my mom found a cat about 4 mounts old by work and decided to bring it home. we introduced the two and it was not good, they just keep fighting, do u think its because my pup is really wild or do yorkies in general not get along with cats, heres a pic of the cat Attachment 55231 Attachment 55232 |

We have two cats and initially our puppy was quite shy with them and would act all timid when they came up to him. Now, however, he doesn't go near them but still acts up when they are around - barking and running in mad circles around them. One actually quite likes him (despite his terrible manners) but the other just runs away from him. I would give it some time but make sure they're separated when you're not there and supervised when you are for now. Try and put the cat in your lap in front of your Yorkie so he can see that the cat is part of the family. I did this with our Morris and Badger kind of got the message that Morris was not to be messed around with pretty early on. Apart from that, and of course dependent on everyone else's point of view, I think it's just one of those things where Yorkies and cats just don't really get along. Good luck though, I'm sure it'll all work out just fine and in time they'll be great friends and if not, suitably respectful of each other to be able to get along in relative peace :) |
my When I had my first york, we had 2 cats...they came along great. With my second york, my roommate got a kitten the same day, they came along when we lived together. But later when we were visiting they was fighting. Now, with Bambie, we have 2 cats at the stable, and they play all day long. I don't think the cats understand she's a dog, because they do NOT like other dogs. And now Bambie gets angry with other neighbour cats (?) or if we meet a cat when we're out for a walk. But she loves the cats at the stable... So maybe they just need time to get to know each other, and the kitten is allready "wild" so it needs time to get to know one they really think is their enemy.. |
My Kitty is significantly older than my yorks. She's nine! She's always ruled the roost. Dougal, being a middle of the pack kind of dog, just always accepted that Kitty was boss. Before we got Dixie, Kitty used to play with Dougal. She'd run up behind him tap his bum on the way passed with her paw then flip on to her back with a "let's wrestle!" look on her face. Dixie tries it on with Kitty a lot more often and has received a few clouts around the earhole when she pushed it just a bit too far. Kitty never goes for the yorkie babies' eyes. If she's had enough (and it takes quite a bit) she'll smack them on top of the head with claws out just a little bit. Maybe your new kitty just needs some time to relax into his / her new surroundings. Cats take a while to get settled. I'd let leave the animals to sort it out if they start fighting. Once the cat lands a few telling blows your yorkie will keep her distance! |
I have 5 cats and they get on fine with my yorkies, I swear my cats think that they are dogs. They always try to pinch the dog food and they play with all the squeaky toys and even chase the balls. They sleep together too. :) |
Chachi does fine with our cat Checkers. Jewels barks at her and makes her nervous. Our cat could live quite happily without my yorkies |
Terriers are just natural born hunters. If they can get away with it, they will chase cats around the house. My Siamese and my dobe used to get along fine until i brought my russell, the 1st terrier. My cat can sense if they are hunters or not, he never trusted my russell. Now Nina comes in and terrorizes the whole situation. She even turned my Dobe against him and they all chase. But my cat just finds all the high places and has the whole downstairs for himself. :animal36 |
