barking my lola is about 4 1/2 months old now and hardly ever barks, i dont how long it takes for them to develop those vocal chords. is it normal to for yorkies not to bark, i havent even heard a full fleged bark either, just little ones? |
Her vocal cords are already developed, lol. She has yet to find a reason to use them. If you're wanting her to bark, create a situation in which she most likely would. Maybe tease her w/ a toy or tease her w/ a yummy treat that has a strong smell to it. Otherwise, just give it some time and as she matures, I can assure you you'll hear a bark or two from her then. I teach all of my dogs to bark on command, just because it's something fun. And on the flipside, they also know "No" and "Quiet" for those times in which they choose to bark and one or two is okay, but when enough is enough I can have them stop. |
Enjoy it honey..lol...it is normal. My yorkie is over 1 years old and she hardly ever barks, maybe once a day if even that. But i'm ok with that :D |
My 4 month old yorkie doesn't bark much either. When he does try to bark...he sounds like a squeak toy...it's so funny. I'm sure as time goes on, they develop their full fledge "bark"....then we'll be asking how to make them stop..lol. Hugs, Jill & Bentley |

yea i guess i should see it as a blessing! LOL my lola also squeaks |
One of mine rarely barks, like only when she is scared. The other one barks at the cat, which he gets reprimanded for. Dogs are by nature, quiet animals, barking only when excited or frightened. I totally discourage barking, There is no need for it. |
You guys are so lucky!!! My girl is 8 months and she loves to bark!!! I think at night it is fear barking but she will NOT stop. I just bought 3 training books and I have a few things to try to see if she will stop. The best thing so far is to keep her on a leash. then she can't run off and bark like mad. It is so hard. I really hate it. The boy barks some but not like her. Grrrr. |
I have a barker My puppy is 4 1/2 mths now and he loves to bark at everything. He was already barking when I brought him home at 8 weeks. It was just so cute I didn't discourage it. Now I have to tell him quiet because he likes to bark so much. He barks at the other 2 dogs, my husband, any stange noise, his shadow, the neighbors. Be thankful you have a quiet one. |
I think your lucky too!! Ella loooves to bark at anything and everything and it can drive you nuts sometimes. So enjoy it I say!!:D |
I have two little girls, one doesn't bark unless something really important is happening to her, but the other one barks at everything, she thinks everything is important enough to let the whole world know about. :( :( :( |
Be happy about it, once they start they don't stop....lol:rolleyes: My son would give anything if Lexie didn't bark, she wakes him up every morning..she barks when she wants to play with Peanut or the cats.... |
aye aye aye lol enjoy your lil yorkie not barking cuz once they start you're gonna wish you were back to where they didn't know how lol Bubba took a while to bark and now he won't STOP! If there is a leaf moving around outside then it's obviously a person so he'll bark. If there's thunder then it's obviously someone invading the backyard and he'll bark. And then sometimes he just bark...to bark I guess. You'll walk in and he is just sitting there looking at nothing and barking lol. He sleeps on top of a couch and we've had to close the blinds in the window because he would sleep there and bark everytime a tree moved lol. Now we're wishing he went back to where he never barked before haha :p Tyke, on the other hand, hardly barks. He'll bark if someone comes in the house or if we're on a walk and sees other people/dogs (speaking of that...Tyke, for whatever reason, has a COW whenever he sees a golden retriever  are there any other dogs out there that are...uhm...prejudice towards other breeds? just out of curiousity). Yorkies, I was told, are known as "yippers" (according to our breeder). Tyke is quiet...Bubba is definately our "yipper" :-) -Melissa |
