birds sitting by KC? I can't believe she doesn't try to chase them. Mine would be all over them.

I breed parrotlets so KC first sees them when they are about 10 days old, naked and maybe 1 inch tall. He cleans them all up after a feeding and is very gentle with them. They actually go to him and beg to be fed.

nope, no side effects. and .... no kisses for a while. I wish mine were gentle with the fowl friends too. this one was dead before she got it tho. my husband was walking her and came back in the house carrying her. he said she got hold of a dead bird. i tried to get it out of her mouth but only got a couple of feathers. I tried trading for a treat but when she saw the treat she made one big swallow and it was gone..........wanting to get the treat! of course i gave him the dickens for not watching what she is going towards. I get so mad at him for that.

Abbey seems to want to chase the birds all over the yard.......I think she would be a bird gulper too:eek: !! she seems to gulp things down so fast..its hard to get stuff outta her mouth!...

I remember the first time Tyke came in with a chipmunk (a few years ago). Poor lil chipmunk was still alive :( Tyke looked so proud though and it was hard to yell at him lol. I took the poor chipmunk and took him outside. Don't know what happened to the poor lil guy :(

And then a couple weeks later I was sitting on the back deck with Tyke (he's usually trained to stay on the deck) when like lightening he FLEW off the deck. I stood there yelling at him to come back and a few minutes later he came prancing back with something in his mouth. Yup, another chipmunk :mad: This one was dead too and part of it was missing cuz Tyke decided he was hungry :rolleyes: Tyke, again looked at me like he was so proud and I couldn't yell at him.

Needless to say I had him sleeping with my dad that night so he could wake HIM up when he wanted to throw up lol

Does anyone know if Yorkies have an instinct in them to hunt rodents because Tyke goes CRAZY when he sees a squirrel or a rabbit or a chipmunk or anything. He used to fling himself against the sliding door (it's clear glass) trying to get out and chase them :eek:

My doggie's crazy...but I love him :D

Melissa, its in their blood to be hunters. They were bred for this originally to hunt rodents and kill them, and because of their extreme cuteness, they then began breeding this size smaller to be luxury "lap" dogs, yeah right. They are beautiful and wonderful companions, but before all that, they were lil hunters!

They really are little hunters alright. Years ago 3 of my sweet little babies (yeah right) got hold of a bird. The problem was that it was one that my daughter's cat had brought into the house for her (she had a terrible time trying to teach my daughter to hunt lol.) in the middle of the night. We woke up in the morning to blood and feathers all over the place and several telltale little feathers around certain mouths. Mine have always been the first to tell me if there's a mouse or something in the house. :)

not trying to be the pessimist here but .... our vet told me they can get worms from wild animals. He said that chipmunks and birds get those same worms that puppies get and when they eat the bird they gt the worms too.
probably wouldn't hurt to check with the vet on that one.. mine always went ahead and gave adewormer after just in case.

I will definately ask the vet. I was wondering about something like that. thanks.
