I really need help .. to all you sewers I have been trying to make really easy dresses for TIffany.. I am trying the kind that velcro around the neck and tummy (is that the easiest kind?) Now I am no expert at sewing- not even close. so i cut out the material (i made the pattern myself) and iron and pin it to sew and then i sew it inside out right? but when i turn it right side out it is kinda bunched up around the neck and sides of arms. does that make sense? do you know what i am doing wrong? I only have problems with the top part. I can do the skirt pretty good and sew it into the top.. but its just that one problem I cant figure out! Any advice would really be appreciated. Thank you so much! Sorry this is so long! Would it be easier to make the ones with arm holes? |
did you trim the edge of the seams before you turned it to about 1/4 an inch? that may be your problem ;) , just too much extra fabric on the inside |
Before you turn it right side out, trim the seams closer to the stitching and then it should not bunch up. You might even need to cut v shaped notches in areas (like maybe the neckline and armholes) that do not have a straight seam. |
Trim the seams to within 1/4 inch of the stitching and then clip thru the seam allowance to the stitching being careful not to clip thru the stitching. Do this especially around the curves. Good luck! |
Sounds like you are not clipping the curves of the seams, doing them at an angle is best. Even with the armholes you still must always clip the curves at an angle. To decide to make your own pattern, you are doing great. Have you gotten any of the store bought dog patterns. There is quite a few out and they really explain everything to do and quite easily. If you watch the adds from Jo Ann's or Hancock Fabrics they have pattern specials quite often. Good Luck and that is great you are sewing for your baby, I know Baby Blessing loves her things. By the way there is a soft velcro out that I prefer for the pet clothing, even Wal-Mart has it. LOL, I wish I could help, Just wanted to wish you luck. I have NO IDEA how to sew.:) :) :) :) |
I wish I had some advice but if I lose a button off something it's done. I can't sew at all. |
Sounds like you got the right advice ..you just need to notch and trim more around those curves ..Good luck to you and have fun ..making doggie wear can be great fun~ |
