I only wonder because we both cannot take the credit and if YorkieTalk has already met their $250.00 match I would think members should just go directly to the UYR site and donate to them directly. |
That's a good question, one which we haven't thought of yet. We will have to ask them how they handle that. |
I sent mine. I wish I could give more, but this month I am broke because of getting Haruka and all her expense :) .. But I hope it helps. Yorkie rescue does a wonderful job. I wish there was one close to my town, then I would love to do volunteer. |
Did you get mine by the way? |
Yay! Zoey & I just donated $5.00! The poor Yorkies need it more than we do. :) |

Also, being that YT has already raised their $250.00 matching contribution wouldn't it be easier to donate directly to UYR anways? It cuts out the middle man right? |
Courtney you are right regarding tax right offs. Unless YT is a 501c3 not for profit organization then members that donated to YT will not get a tax write off but they would if they had made the donation directly to UYR as they are classified as a 501c3. For this purpose I made my donation directly to UYR. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not-for-profit_corporation A Not-for-profit corporation is a corporation created by statute, government or judicial authority that does not issue stock. It is created with a specific purpose, educational, charitable or related to other enumerated purposes, it may be a foundation, a charity or other type of non-profit organization. Such a corporation is subject to the general laws of corporations as adapted. In some cases it may also be a public corporation. In many countries these entities are subject to exemption from various tax laws, in certain circumstances. Regarding the more general group of organizations created for non-remunitary purposes see: Non-profit organization. Regarding US tax law applying to these organizations see: intermediate sanctions, unrelated business activities. |
We were told to mark your contribution UTR so Admin would know where the contributions were going. My check was made out to UTR not YT there- fore I can use it as a deduction. How were the contributions through pay pal made? |

As long as the check or donation was made out to the organization that has a 501c3 then you can get the donation. |

I don't want to start a debate here but I don't think that is fair. Many people, including myself, for tax reasons must donate so much money each year to different 501c3 corporations in order for a hefty tax write off due to the tax brackets we are in. I also understand that there are people out there too that will donate just because and could care less about the tax deduction but I don't think it is fair for someone else, wheather it be a person or a forum or company take a tax credit when it doesn't belong to them. Actually, I beleive, if I remember correctly that it would be considered tax fraund but I will look into that further to get the accurate wording on the RCW. |
