hi a bit of advice please!!! hello, i am brand new, this is my first note. i ran accross this website and i am very grateful for any help. we fell inlove with a little yorkie last august while in the south of france. he stole our hearts *husband and i) so we decided to get him even though it would mean a whole year of wait, why? because we live in london and they quarentene the dogs for 6 months before they can enter the uk, and the dogs need to be at least 5 months to get the vaccines, so we waited and saw him as often as we could. spend christmas with him and at least 4 weeks in the last 8 months,,,, i know is very little but we couldnt do better. well, now i am nervious because tomorrow we are flying in to pick him up!!! so excited too, i cant wait to hold him and give him all his new toys! the problem is: is it too late to train him... the breeder sais he barks and he is well, a handful.... do you think we will bond? will he be traumatized about coming to uk and leaving his family ( he stayed with the breeder and his biological mom) all this time. i want to do the change as smooth as possible as i dont want to hurt my pooch... please tell me how can i make it easy? i know it would have been easier and cheaper to get a dog in london but it was love at first sight, you cant go against your gut and we know he is the one!!! i adore that dog and the wait has been worth it, i just want him to be at ease. we also have a 3 year old cat and i dont know what will happen when they meet, a bit worried but hoping for the best... any advice??? thanks a lot!! |
bringing home Only one piece of advice I can think of and that is to bring home a blanket or toy with his mom and the breeders scent on it. I think he will bond with you easily as he already knows you. I'm in the process of training a 9 mo old rescue and she is doing very well or rather I should say my male is housebreaking her as she takes clues from him. She bonded easily-it took a couple days but now she follows me every where. It nice to meet you, I wish you luck and keep us posted on how he's doing. |
He will do fine just give him some time and the love you have for him! He will settle into your routine besides the worst of the puppy months are behind you. He should be ready for training. |
Am no expert but am sure everything will be fine and it won't be for long and he'd realize what a wonderful master you will be for him Tiger, Annika and I want to welcome you to YT . . . can't wait for pictures of your baby |
There will be an adjustment period, but dogs are very resiliant. Some people on here have gotten older rescue dogs that were abused and neglected, and with patience and time and loads of love they did fine. Congratulations, Good luck, and Welcome to YT. |
We brought our Remi into the house with a 4 year old cat. At first, they wouldnt come close to each other, as Remi got bigger, he started playing with the car, which means he would chase her and then she would chase him, once a while scratching his little but. Once Remi gre up, we figuratively speaking, 1.5 years, the cat gave up on him and just runs away and hides under a sofa. Just make sure her nails are clipped so that dogs eyes cannt be harmed. Good luck |
I doubt you would have any problems training him. These animals are like sponges, as long as you train him using positive reinforcement he will do great :D WELCOME AND CONGRATS |
Here's a good link about retaining baby teeth. I waited until 10 months to have my baby's extracted without causing any damage. http://lowchensaustralia.com/health/teeth.htm |
thanks! thanks a bunch for all your words of encouragement and support, this is my first dog and so far, i have never (i hope my husband never reads this) felt such inconditional love, this dog has only been with me a few days and i feel so loved... is amazing. today i am taking himto the vet so they can meet, unfortunately in london pets arent welcomed in most places but i dont care! i am happy to have him :) |
