What is this stuff? (pic) http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...12/unknown.jpg Sorry for the crappy pic, but I keep finding these little brown specs of...whatever it is...all over our Yorkie's lower backside, just above the tail and all around the anus area. Can anyone shed some light on this? TIA! |
I don't know, but Im interested in knowing what it could be. Are they bugs? |
Hmmm I have no clue. How long has it been there? Any side effects? |
More info please... are they moving, is she itching, are they fleas? Flea dirt? |
I am sure that someone else will post that is sure of what that is but I am thinking that is a sign of tapeworms. You could call your vet and ask or look it up online. I wish I could be more certain but it is hard to tell from a pic.:) |
Hard to tell the size from the pics, but looks/sounds like it could be tapeworm, to me. When they come out they are cream colored and wiggly, and they quickly dry into small "rice-like" little crunchies. A vet trip would be in order! |
i'm thinking tapeworms or maggots. its disgusting yes i know but that's what it looks like to me. are they alive and moving? does your dog have a dirty backside? |
Here's a few oddities we have noticed about our pup. He's constantly scratching at his ears. We don't know if it's the hair (needs a hair cut) or if he's itchy there. We regularly groom him and use an ear cleaning solution to keep his ear clean. I have not noticed anything on his skin that may indicate fleas or ticks. His coat is shiny and full of luster all over his body EXCEPT for the area on his backside just above the tail. One morning as I was letting him out to go potty, the same said area looked really mussed up and dirty compared to the rest of is coat despite not being let out what-so-ever. We recently used Advantix plus on him (2 wks ago) so I don't think they are fleas. They are definitely brown and crunchy. Definitely "rice-like." At first we thought he has saw on some brown rice that we feed him on occasion when he's being real picky about his food, but we are positive that it's not rice. |
i think a trip to the vet is in order. bring some of the brown things and a stool sample with you. Have the vet check his eats, his skin, his poop, and an all over body check for other skin irritation problems |
does anyone know if this is contageous to other dogs in the house? |
if another one of the dogs ate any material be it poop or one of the actual bugs, then yes they could get it too. treatment should be given to all animals in the house. |
I would take him to the vet ASAP. |
uggg.... it is probably tapeworms.. :eyebrow2: maxi just got treated for them.. they are SO GROSS!!! especially because i have a worm-phobia. she gave them to my roommate's dog and my roommate got it from her dog. it's a crazy cycle. :shocked7q :yorkietal |
Tapeworm I agree it sounds like tapeworm to me. Sissy had them when we first got her. The treatment is simple-usually just one pill. She was sleeping with us and in the morning I noticed the "brown rice' inj the bed. The next morning the same thing but this time I threw them into the toilet and when I went back they had rehydrated into white strips. You only notice these when they are shedding and just because you don't see them doesn't mean they are gone so you need to contact your vet and get medication. |
After a bit of research on the web based on everyone's helpful response, it would seem that our pup has tapeworm and, possibly, roundworm. We have a vet visit scheduled for tomorrow afternoon and hope that our pup will be on the road to recovery soon. We will be having our other puppy looked, as well, seeing that she has developed a taste for poop. Who knows what she has put in her mouth when we weren't looking. :unlove: |
