Rawhide ears okay? Gracie is really starting to chew are rawhide bones OK as long as I take them away when she is not being supervised? |
As long as she only gets them while being supervised then its fine. Also, watch her the first couple times she gets them because they can upset some dogs stomachs and they'll get diarrhea. |
You know,my vet told me not to give my yorkies (I have 3) rawhide. He said as they get moist they can swell up in their tummies and cause blockage when their a small breed. We think that's what happened to my Maxx (he is 7 now) when he was under a year old - I was letting him eat rawhide and he loved it. I haven't let any of them eat them since. I'd never heard this before to be honest but I didn't want to chance it - I'd never had little dogs before. |
its not really that they can swell up, but its more that they can bit off big pieces of it or they can swallow the rawhide when it gets to be a small size. dogs can choke on it or it can get lodged in their intestines. that's really why you need to supervise them when they have chewy like rawhide and take away any pieces that they break off and take away the rawhide when it gets too small. i recommed getting bully sticks instead. they don't get gooey like rawhide |
Try bully sticks. Dogs love 'em, and they're almost indestructible so you don't have to worry about them swallowing little pieces. Plus, supervising a dog chewing a bone gets old real fast. |
