Advice needed please I am after some advice regarding my little boy...he was born on 14th Feb, and i have had him from 8 weeks...he has been for his first jab today...the vet checked him over, weight, teeth, listened to his heart etc, and she had a good feel around..... She told me that she could not feel his testicles at all...and that it may be due to him being so small, but said that she will check again in 2 weeks when he goes for his second jab. I asked her what this means, and if they dont drop down could anything be done for him....she basically said that i would not be able to breed or show him..( my plan was to show) She also told me to contact the breeder, which i have done. The breeder told me that i am worried over nothing, and her friend has a male with only one testicle and studs him out!!! And maybe that the fall he had has knocked him back a few weeks (he fell down the stairs and knocked himself out and stopped breathing). Is that possible? And can you stud as dog out like that? Any advice would be a great help!:aimeeyork |
No you dont want to stud out a male with one testicle because he could pass that trait to the pups. He is still young yet and they might still drop. Chachi was 6 months when his dropped. |

You may not want to breed a male with only one descended testicle (the breeders will know more about this than I do) BUT - a male with only one testicle certainly can breed - it takes only one healthy testicle to produce sperm - and that's all that is needed to impregnate a female. This same condition happens with men - and it does not hamper their sex life or cause them to be less fertile. However, the incidence of cancer is higher and other problems are also more common. This means that it is a condition that should be corrected. I would imagine it should be corrected in a dog also for the same reasons, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't worry too much about it too much with their pets. Carol Jean |
Here is another little something to think about. My vet when checking Brody could find one of his testicals and said not to worry, with small breeds they are sometime hidden. I started rechecking and found both with no problem. I also know that when she removed them when he was fixed there were 2 healthy little nuts...hehe |
