How to pull the ear hair... can I do it myself? We actually never pulled out the hair in Mitzis ears but I'm reading a lot of it and I like to do it myself since we don't want to give her to a groomer. Has anyone experience with that and how to do it? I would really appreciate! Thanks! :aimeeyork |
They've got ear powder to help pull the hair. It should also be used after a bath to help air the ears out and get rid of moisture. |

We use Doctor Fosters & Smith Ear Powder...ordered it from the company. |
Pur breeder showed us how to pull her ear out with the help of a special tool for this. We haven't yet been able to locate the tool at out petstores or animalhospital since they're sold out at the moment so we haven't pulled any hair yet. It kinda scares me put when our breeder showed us how to do it she didn't even react so I guess it doesn't bother them too much if done correctly. If it doesn't go well I'll take her to the groomer nearby to get it done. |

marianna can you post a pic of this tool? |
I use the powder on mine and i just use tweezers to pull the hair out. It works really well. The first time I did it on Abigail she never cried once. She was a little over a year when I did it too. |
Powder? Why do you use powder? Sophie has been itching her ears and I had the vet check her ears and he said they look fine. So I am wondering would the powder help the itching? |
I use the powder to pull the hair out of the ears because it can block the ear canal. |

Thank you for explaining that. I guess this is a dumb question but are you talking about hair by the ear lube. Because neither Sophie or Winston have hair there. Not sure maybe the groomer takes care of it. |

You can buy 'em online or in pet stores for a few bucks.... I've seen craft stores carry them in stock too. I've never felt the need to get a pair. I've found tweezers work well enough. |
tsehasd I am not sure I just pull all of the hair from the inside of their ears but I don't get Abigail groomed so I have to do it myself. The groomer probably does it for you though thats why you probably don't see any. |
The powder is exactly for you to get a grip of the hair and be able to pull it out easily. It is really easy to do it, however while some dogs have no problem with the ear hair being pulled others do and they will scream when you do it even it is does not hurt them. |

I forgot to add that it's the tool "at the top" on this pic. She recommended them instead of tweezers since they are "dull" and can't scratch the ear if the dog makes a sudden move etc.. |
Thanks everyone for the input! Mitzi and I am going on the "ear-hair-plugging-adventure" this weekend. :aimeeyork |
