Any suggestions to get puppies ears to stand up? I heard from some other breeders and reading on this site to use tape. I also heard of someone using popsicle sticks??? :confused: |
although I have not tried it myself as there was no need to, tape should be okay. Do you already know for sure it will never stand up on its own, or are you just in a hurry :rolleyes: My Tiger had both ears down, then up, then flipped backwards and then up and then one up and the other down and now both up for a long time . . .maybe give it some time. Of course, if the parents don't have both ears standing, then it is possible it won't go up either :rolleyes: Welcome to YT . . . |
I am not in a hurry. I just thought if you did not get them to stand when they were puppies they would never stand. I think that yorkies look cute whether their ears stand or not. |
Wiley, how old is your puppy? Their ears generally stand around 3 months or so. If your pup's younger than that you can wait and see if they pop up on their own. You can help by trimming the hair around the edges and shave the back down 1/3 of the way down. Sometimes the weight of their hair keeps the ears from standing. I still trim the edges of my puppy because of the weight. If you want to tape them....shave the ears, fold one ear together, tape, do the other, then place together in the middle of their head and tape. Good luck ~ ~ |
lexi's ears finally stayed up at i think 7 months.. just be patient. they will flop both one at a time, but eventually they both will stand up... it just drove me nuts... |
Dolores har the hair on the top of her ears trimmed at 8 weeks by our breeder, but since they still made no attempt to stand at 11 weeks we were adviced to just cut down the hair (which grows really fast on her) again. So we did this and her left ear started standing up a few days later. Since her right ear still was down I cut her hair again two days ago (12 weeks) on just that ear and now it's standing up "part time", in a few days it will probably stand up permanently as the left one did. So that's my advice. I cut the hair really close to the skin both on the outside and the inside on the top of the ear. But not so close that you can tell that they're not furry. They're still black/brown on the outside. Just use a good quality groomingscissor. I was so happy not to have to tape them, I didn't think that trimming the hair would have such a great effect, but it did. Even when trimming with a week between there wasn't too much length to take off but it still made a difference in her ear. Good luck to you! |
I had to tape Gracie's ears. The vet showed me how. He cut little ear shaped pieces out of heavy paper, placed tose on the inside part of the ear, and then wrapped white (surgical?) tape around them. After a few days, I went to change the tape and the ears were already standing on their own. I was amazed how fast it was. I have pictures on my old computer that I'll try to figure out how to transfer because it was sooo funny looking! |
