natural flea remedies? Before I make a purchase I thought I would ask here. I usually use Frontline on my cats but I was never comfortable using it. Now summer is here again and it's about time to apply something on them for protection. I now have Jack (my yorkie) and I'm really reluctant to use Frontline on any of them, partly because of his size and partly because these flea and tick repellants are actually pesticides(poison). I was on a site called naturespet and they sell products that contain neem and other natural ingredients from shampoos to flea sprays. If anyone has used these could you give me your feed back on your results? |
Hey there, I use the Brewer's Garlic Yeast tablets for Brody. They were recommended by a breeder and seem to be working. I give him 1 tab a day. It is supposed to also help with coat and smell. It really seems to be working for the fleas. You can get the tablet at Petmart. For our little guys you give 1 full tab a day for pets as young as 4 months. Hope this helps! ;) |
I went to a local health foods store and the woman told me to use those but I wasn't sure if I could get Jack to eat it and she did't know how long it would take to build up to the point where it would start to protecting.I am considering the garlic and yeast product it was my second alternative. I'm glad to hear it's working for you. Thank you for the response. |
The breeder said it take about 5-10 days of daily use to work. We have had no signs of fleas or ticks...knock on wood! As for liking the, Brody loves them and begs for them every morning in the kitchen. I just walk torward the jar and he jumps for them. Funny how fast they pick on were the food is and what they get to have. I uses them as a treat and make him do tricks. |

I dont know. I think it would be depend on the weight of the puppy. I would give it to a puppy smaller than 2.5lbs and 4 months. If you give a half a tablet it should be OK. Brody weights just at 3lbs and doesnt have any problems. We started giving them to him at 2.5lbs and had no problems. But that is my dog. I will have to leave that to your judgement. Sorry! |

Yes it is just a garlic and yeast tablet that help in a few ways for the dogs system and to protect from fleas. I did tons of research before I gave it to my poochie. More to see if it really worked for the money. Not all that expensive and like I said seems to be working. I check him for fleas and tick to be safe but would do that if I was using something else. I have seen all the product fail and hate to use chemicals on something so small. |
Brewers Yeast Tabs I give that to both my cat and Lex. I got a big bottle for like $12 at jefferspets.com. They both love to see the bottle come out and once I get near that cabinet that I keep the pills in they both come running. |
Is this the right one? http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...rlic+yeast&N=2 |
Brewers Sorry this is the one that I purchased...they are very cheap and the site is great to buy things from: http://www.jefferspet.com/ssc/produc...A29W5SQKEM8DK5 |
Jeffers I always buy from these guys. You should check their site for other things you might need. I had just bought a ton of stuff from them for my pets. |
What about ticks Do these tablets work for ticks? We live on 20 acres and ticks are a pretty big problem. Frontline is very expensive for my 5 cats and 6 dogs and I hate using the pesticide on them. Is there a natural remedy for ticks? Thanks. |
I'm glad to hear these things are working on all your pets. I'm going to go get some today. I still would like to hear if anyone has used the products with the "neem" in them. I still have some guilt about using Frontline on my cat, I used it for years and she developed a large mass on her stomach area and it turned out to be cancer and she was put down six months later. I'm not saying she would'nt have gotten the cancer anyway, but I always wonder what the cumulative effect of putting this pesticide does to our animals. |
