what is the best what is the best kind of food to feed yorkies for their smell and coats? I was feeding Kizzy Eukanuba and she never smelled much but she was younger. I changed to IAMs and seems to me she smells much stronger. But maybe they have more scent as they get older. has anyone else noticed their pups smell changing with changing food or does their food have anything to do with their smell? |
I don't think there is just one best kind of food . . .but there are certainly a lot of great dog foods available out there. I feed my Tiger Innova Kibble puppy food mixed with Merrick wet food. |

Kizzy, when we first got Chester, and did not know a thing about dogs...and thought food was food, we put Chester on Kirkland (Costco) brand food and the ingredients were incredible though. No bad stuff. He ate it and boy did he smell. We thought all yorkies smelled, he smelled a few hours after a bath even! We tried baby powder, switching shampoos, scented shampoos, etc etc. and even though of buying a air purifiyer ...until I ran into a Nutro Natural Balance rep at Petsmart and she recommended the food so I thought I try it. Well, his smell disappeared after about 2 days!! I really believe it was the food!!! Try it and see if there is a change. also, read the labels!! I've learned so much since our first faux paux. When you say smell do you mean when they have gas??? If not my baby doesn't stink and never has. Now the breath can stink have they have baby teeth trying to come out. I went through that phase. But Diesel has never just smelled bad. By the way he is currently eating Pedigree Puppy . I know it isn't the best food but I have tried many other and this seems to be the only one he will eat. Check her mouth for loose teeth. That might be the problem. Good Luck Michelle |
Yes food affects how an animal will smell the same as humans. IMHO there are better foods to feed your little one than IAMS. Food will affect their skin and their hair so you might want to check out Nutro or Natural Balance. There are tons of threads on YT about what to feed your dog so enjoy the search feature:p |
I've been asking the same question as well. I used to feed my puppy moist food the Cesar Puppy food and she smelled great! Just like a little baby :) I loved the way she smelled and it was all good until I changed her food to dry food. Now she doesn't smell :( and she started scratching alot. http://www.cesar.com/SelectDinners/default.asp |
i feed my dogs science diet, and eukanuba but i have never notice any smells unless they just took a bath but my mom used iams for along time on her dogs and every single dog (4) have had large fatty tumors and it has been trying time to keep having them removed she switched to something else now and no more new tumors. i think the last one was removed recently now we dont know for certain if it was iams it is just funny that all the dogs were on the same food and all the dogs had the same things happen |
well, I know the iams smells stronger than the eukanuba when I am fixing it that i was feeding her. So I'mma try something else. I did read a lot of things on foods but it was after I changed her to this iams. I dont even like the smell of it in the bag. thanks all. |
