Which is better....Missing Link, Missing Link Plus, or Derm Caps... for dry flaky skin??? I give Hobbs a bath every 10-14 days, brush him almost daily, switched his food from Pro Plan to Chicken Soup, bathe him with Head & Shoulders moisturizing shampoo & conditioner (per advice from vet) and his skin is still so dry with flakes. So, I guess I want to start him on a supplement. But which is better?? I have searched YT and found 3 solutions that most people recommend, but which is best for Hobbs' dry, flaky skin?? Missing Link, Missing Link Plus, or Derm Caps?? Thanks in advance for your help! :p |
I could be wrong but i thought Missing Link and dermacaps are the same thing. I am not sure what Missing Link plus is Ive never seen it. I give my dogs Missing Link and it is good for dry and problem skin. My Chachi has allergies and My vet recommended it. |

On the same note though, I've been giving Tatum the Grizzly Salmon Oil stuff on her food for almost a year and I'm not completely impressed with it. I'm thinking of going back to the Missing Link powder on her food. Our problem is that she spends quite a bit of time outside getting dirty and her hair really pays the price. I think it needs a little more pampering (from the inside) on top of what we're doing when we bathe and groom her. Have ya'll really seen good results from the Missing Link? We used it for just a little while before switching to the Salmon oil so we probably didn't give it enough time to show it's magic the first time. Also, the funniest thing was the time I tried to make Tatum take one of the gelcap things. Thought I would put it in her mouth and kinda squeeze it so she would swallow the liquid. WHAT A MESS! I agree putting it on the food is best but it's still a mess. The Grizzly Salmon Oil is in a pump that you squirt on the food. So, any thoughts? Missing Link better than Grizzly Salmon Oil??? |
Huh thats interesting. Ive never seen that. They dont have the plus at Petsmart where I got my Missing Link. Ill have to check dr Fosters and Smith. I would definitely get the Missing Link Plus with the glucosame for joints. I give my dogs a suppliment for their joints and I could quit If i gave them that. You wont be disapointed with the Omega 3s in Missing Link or Missing Link Plus. My dogs have beautiful coats and no skin problems. Chachi used to have terrible flakey skin and dull hair. |
I tried a spray on the food and Cali didn't seem to like it. With the Missing Link she eats it right up on her food and she has been on it about 3 full weeks and her coat seems better. She does still have some flaky skin and scratches but hopefully more time on the ML will help this. Also She didn't have any stomach problems with it. I like the powder. |
Hobbs doesn't have joint problems now at only 8 months, but I know that joint problems are characteristic of yorkies, and my parents' yorkie has bad knee problems. Is it too early to use the ML Plus if Hobbs isn't having joint problems? Do you think if I used the Plus that it would prevent joint problems?? Or should I use the regular ML and switch to the Plus if he ever develops joint problems?? Sorry I have so many questions!!!!!!! |
I give my dogs a suppliment for their joints as a preventative. My dogs arent elderly. I dont think the glucosame could hurt only help. |
Tatum's Mom If the oil is messy I would switch to Missing Link. Missing Link also has the benefit of having probiotics (good bacteria - has to be refrigerated) and is just sprinkled on their food. It is also easier to give the correct dosage for our little ones unlike a pump. The plus just has the glucosamine added for healthy joints and has more dried liver. |
The plus has the glucosamine in it which is supposed to be good for the joints. I use the regular right now but will probably switch once this bag runs out. Have you considered that the itching might be allergy mediated. I have my two on a grain free diet as Jolene is very sensitive to grains and will itch like mad. I have also heard of itching due to protein allergies. |
