Yorkie pup constantly barking/whinning!!
 
We just adopted a new yorkie girl 2 weeks ago, to add to our boy yorkie, who is 6 months. Little Zoe has a very sassy personality, problem is, she can bark for hours at a time even though we ignore her when she does this. It doesn't stop!! She will bark for hours (at times 2-3 hours) at a time when we come home from work or when we leave her and we try the ignoring when she is in her ex pen but it is driving us crazy! We've even try saying 'be quiet' and 'shhh' and that doesn't work either. What can we do?

I have heard that if you teach her to "bark", or "speak" on command FIRST...then... you can teach them to be "quiet" or "shhh" on command.:aimeeyork
But I have never had a problems with barkers so I have never actually tried. :rolleyes:

my puppy sitter has two weiner dogs who like to bark a lot. she's pretty much broken them from barking by getting a big white (recognizable to them) spray bottle of water and sqirting them when they bark. now they know to be quiet when she reaches for the bottle.


OR you could get a coke can and fill it with coins and shake it whenever she barks.

Scream, no no no no when she starts so she knows its the barking that you don't like. That didn't work for us so we would grab her by the scruff of her neck and shake a little and about 4 times doing that stopped the barking for good.

that's what i did with my maltese. it really works. he runs for his life when he see me pick up the spray bottle.

oh what a great idea. I will do that when he barks in the car . . something he has been doing just this week!

Not a big fan of smacking or being physical with dogs so please dont do that. What I have done is when he barks I put my hand around his mouth very gently I might add and said No Barking. He now barks and looks at me or my fiance as if to say "Is it okay to bark?" I think that associating what you are doing with what you are saying makes sense to them i.e. hand over mouth then say no barking. Also, search on her for this topic you will see a ton of posts with great ideas.

Bitter Apple spray worked well for us. NO Bark and a squirt in the mouth and he shut right up :D

i just show it to her... a flyswatter that is

Both of mine whined and barked in the car....I found ignoring them was much more effective. Not much fun to bark and whine if it doesn't get you anything.

LOL Same with Nikko only I threaten him with the can. I have a can of pennies he absolutely hates. All I have to say is "Nikko, you want mommy to get the can?" and he clamps right up.:D
