carrots! celery! apples! oh my! A) what kind of household foods are ok for yorkies? i read that if they have an upset stomach, to feed them bland food such as rice or boiled chicken (no bones, of course) B) his diet is being drastically changed because i dont know what he was being fed before, he started eating grass and then throwing it up. but he hasnt in two days so i think maybe that part is over. but his booboo has been yellow and kind mushy, but slowly getting solid. he's still trying to eat grass though. i make him stop before he eats a lot. but is there anything to do to make his tummy feel better or to ease digestion? i heard pepto bismol might work. or tums. but i'm SO scared of giving him people medicine. and if it was ok to give him pepto or something, how much would i give? C) what are some good healthy snacks? carrots? celery? apples? D) the lady who puppy sits him while i'm at work feeds him (and her two weiner dogs) lowfat cheese and sometimes popcorn. it doesnt seem to bother him, and he likes it, but is it healthy for him? i trust her judgement but i just want to be sure. Thanks Thanks Thanks for any help! |
My Yorkie had ibs so he had a very bland diet prescription food from the vet which mainly consisted of chicken and rice a few veggies cooked and blended. He was happy with this diet contery to belief they do not need a wide range of foods.I think if you introduce different foods slowly and see what he is like. Good luck and enjoy your yorkie they are such wonderful dogs.:animal36 |
The poop description sounds like what would naturally happen changing diet. And if it's coming right then your baby will be right. I wouldn't worry about the grass. My babies eat high quality dog food (Nutro) and they still nibble on grass. They need the fibre (just like we need fibre) to keep things moving.:D Small amounts of fruit should also be fine (it's fibre again) - although quite high in (natural) sugar too! (But no raw onion - I've heard it's toxic). A few people-food treats won't harm your doglet. Variety is the spice of life ;) |
I dont know if I would feed popcorn but cheeses and fruits and vegetables are fine. Cottage cheese is real good for them. |
For breakfast mine get a t'spoon of cottage cheese mixed through the dry kibble, during the day they get small pieces of apple, banana, peer... no citric fruits though. You can also add green beans through his kibble, boiled with NO salt. They get pieces of raw carrot to chew on too... NO onions. Not sure about the popcorn, mine don't get it. |
thanks so much! |
No onions, grapes or raisins - something in them is toxic. Garlic has it too, but I heard it would take a lot of garlic to make them sick, so a little is ok to flavor food with. |
i give lexi some of my banana, carrots, apples, she loves it.. cottage cheese too... |
I wouldn't feed them popcorn because of the kernels (but I am paranoid:rolleyes: ). Cottage cheese, apples and carrots are great, Georgie loves all of that stuff. When he gets picky with his dry food I mix a little 1/2 tsp. of cottage cheese in it and he loves it. Oh and Georgie eats grass everytime he goes outside so I wouldn't worry about that:D One last thing Georgie had an upset tummy and I took him to the vet and the vet said give him 1/4 tablet of Pepcid AC and it worked like a charm. Just be careful not to give him too much. |
