animals poisoned by swifter wetjet...... Hi guys, I just received some startling info. Animals are being poisoned by the swifter wetjet fluid.Apparently, people using this on there floors are endangering there animals and children. The fluid is something close to "antifreeze". The story that I was told was a women brought her dog to the vet. The dog had been licking it's paws after she would wash the floor. Diagnosis liver failure. This is also a danger to children, cats and anyone exposed to the floor that the fluid has been used on. The fluid is potentially dangerous even after it is dry. |
Well, I'll be tossing mine in the trash! Thanks for the heads-up! |
Curious??? I'm curious to know where you got your information??? I just hate for rumors to get passed around if that's all it is. How did the woman know that the dog was sick from the Wet Jet and not something else in the yard or in the house?? |

Good point. I did I search on Swiffer, and found a thread with this link: http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/swiffer.asp I'll post the link to the thread too! |
here's the link to the thread... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...hlight=swiffer Guess I'll be digging mine out of the garbage:rolleyes: |
Great! Thanks for clearing that up...:D |
It is also listed on the actual box under the caution |
This is actually an internet rumor. It is not true and the company doesn't know how the rumor or why it has gotten started but they do not use antifreeze or any ingredients harmful to their pets in their product. It's an internet urban legend. Type it into Google and you will see. So mop away safely and happily. :D |
More on swifter Someone sent me an email about this. The girl that sent it to me is a vet technician so I took it seriosly. I figured she wouldn't send it to me if there wasn't any truth to it. |
A lot of people don't know it's not true because it gets passed from one person to another, like a chain letter.. |
Look at the link that someone posted previously from snopes.com. It is not true. The makers of Swiffer Wet Jet have even made a public announcement that their product is in no way harmful to pets (well, unless they literally drink the stuff like water probably). And come on, I am sure most of us on YorkieTalk use Swiffer Wet Jet or Swiffer products to mop our floors. Has anyone on this site ever had a pet get sick or die from it?! I certainly have not. |
I use it and haven't had a problem. Now, I don't let the dogs back on the floor until it's dry. I wouldn't want them licking it either way. |
This has been around, through the emails, severl times, and there isn't a word of truth to it. |
I have used the swifter products (including Wet Jet) for as long as they have been out -- and have had three dogs and two cats that have never had any problem at all. I agree so completely with being careful about spreading rumors. Just one mention of something like this (like the first post here - or the person who sent that poster an E-mail) can quickly lead to hundreds of incorrect posts all over the Internet and continue through further E-mail -- and, then it goes on and on.. to even further spread this incorrect information. We shouldn't regard information like this as true until we check it out (regardless of who sends it to us). We need to go to prime sources -- carefully read the labels on these products ourselves - visit these companies websites - they are usually always ready to provide us with further information. (And - of course - it is to their benefit to be as truthful as possible - because they don't want pets to die - or be liable in the event that pets do get sick or die from their products.) I personally never believe any of these rumors until I check them out for myself. I also couldn't see how this product could be too harmful anyway - because by the time I get done with my floor and turn around - it's almost completely dry. And - if I'm cleaning a floor - whether the product is safe or not - it is the last room I want my pets in anyway..... Again - it's a shame that rumors like this every get started.... Certainly there are products that aren't safe for us, our children, or our animals - and we do need to take precautions when we use them -- and, most of these products do state this information on their labels..... Yeah, I don't believe any "warnings" I get via Internet. Very, very few have any truth in them and they sure do make the rounds! Julie |
