Need Help on Rearend Shaving This sound pretty bad but I need some help on how to shave the rearend area. I usually have my yorkies groomed once a month, after about two weeks one of my yorkies has hair all matted on her rearend and can't go poop. The idea of me shaving this area really scared me. I don't want to do it wrong and end up hurting her. Is there a book or video that someone knows of that shows how to do this properly? I usually just give her a bath and the warm water soaks any stuck on poo away. Is their a certain kind of clippers that are easier and safer to use of beginners like me. |
I just use the inexpensive battery operated moustache & beard trimmer for men. I don't shave them to the skin but instead take a little off at a time. If you are afraid it would cut your baby, don't be. You can put the blade against your fingers to see it won't. I also use the clipper to trim the hair between the pads on their feet and to keep the ears neat. This is one grooming tool I can't do without! You'll do great! |
Are you talking about the trimmer that is about the size of a pen? |

I had the same problem with Rowdy a year ago when he was little. I soaked the poop off, washed and dried his rear end and then used the moustach clippers (about 1 inch wide) just like recommended - it worked like a charm. These were really cheap - got them at Walmart I think. I had my hubby hold him up in the air so he was at my eye level. I held up his tail and clipped away. I shaved him bald because I didn't want it to happen again. You will do fine, don't be afraid. |
I bought a bikini area trimmer at Walmar. I haven't used it yet because I could not get them to hold still. enlisting hubbies help is an excellent idea. LOL |
I still don't do a very thorough job but I have learned that if I can get one of them to lie in my lap on it's back, the rearend is easier to trim. it is right there. All you have to do is hold the tail up a little. trouble is, mine won't lie still long enough for a good job. |
LOL...I have one of each - Chanel will stand with her legs planted a mile apart and say "HAVE AT IT MOM" ...and Cheri ....I have to PRY her tail off that little butt - man - she can CLAMP it on there lol When you trim with the electric trimmer - GO EASY !! Don't do a Baboon Butt !! :D it takes forever to grow back - just trim a little at a time and you should be fine. |

Be very careful with the moustache trimmers some brands can be very loud. and when you trim hold the clippers so that the blades angled down. run the clippers down like your barely brushing the ends of the hair. it will take less hair at a time but you won't end up with bald spots starting off. (guess I put beauty school tricks to good use huh?)Oscar seems to do better if I put him standing on a table so he isnt' trying to run off or snuggle on my lap or find a comfy spot to pout at me. |
