Somebody Help Me Please!!!!!!! I want to kill this dog!!!! (ok, not literally but I am soooo mad!!! ) Lately Nikko has taken to chewing on the walls. This is his new thing and whenever i catch him, I usually scold him, remove him from the area and spray it with bitter apple so he won't go near it for awhile. He is kept in the kitchen while we are at work and we have never had an incident. Today i come home to find a gaping hole in my wall!!!! I was so angry I couldn't believe it. He knew I was mad because he ran under my kitchen table. I yelled at him and put him in his crate for an extended time out while i cleaned up the mess. Not only was I livid but also worried that he might of eaten some of the plaster and made himself sick. Nikko is 1 year old and I know he is way past his teething. Why is he doing this now? What can I do to prevent him from destroying the rest of my walls? Now I can't keep him in the kitchen so i have no clue what to do with him while I'm at work. Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated. I am so frustrated right now!!! |
o man my Princess does the same thing, Only when she is left alone, Ive also tried the bitter apple, but she will just go to another part of the wall!! i totally understand how u feel! cant wait to hear some advice!! |

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with Nikko, he is most likely bored. Buy a folding fence and put him into it with his food, water, toys and open crate, and pee pad. Make it safe for him, the fence will keep him in and out of anything that could be harmful or destructive. The fence serves as a playpen. I use one daily with two of my girls. The fence can be purchased at PetSmart or Petco or you can order them from the internet. Good luck! |
I think you will need to crate or x- pen him when you are at work. Provide him with lots of chew toys and make sure he has lots of exercise before and after work.Maybe obedience classes so that you can do lots of positive interaction with him. He may be chewing because he is bored. |

Chewing drywall is not uncommon for dogs - he's just bored. Provide plenty of chews (I like bully sticks the best) and take him for a walk before you have to leave. Maybe you can hire someone to take him for a walk during the day also. Also go buy a Kong that you fill with soft food and this will keep him busy for quite a while. I don't personally have a Kong, so maybe others will give you suggestions on what to put in it besides the can of stuff they sell with it. |

I'm not sure if this works or not. But, I've heard in you put clear deodorant on wherever they are chewing that it keeps them from chewing. If you decide to do this let us know if it works. Good Luck. |
