Sooner or later???? Hi guys...I wanted to ask and who better than one of our lovely Yt members. My baby Daisy is now 7 months old. I was planning on getting her a male Yorkie to mate with and make beautiful baBIES...I was told by a few people that now is the time in which she will be in heat, but yet nothing. Does anyone know exactly when they do go into heat????????????Thank you for taking the time to read.....Any help would be greatly appreciated... |
Yumi, each dog is different but can start as early as 6 months to a year I think. Of course, we've got a lot of experienced breeders who will be able to answer you! |
Gucci's first heat was at 9 months. Like Tiger's mom said is different for every dog. Im not a breeder but I think I read somewhere that is best not to mate the female on the first heat. Also before you decide to breed do a lot of research. Good luck. I know some of our wonderful breeders can help you. |
Hi Yumi.... every dog is different and every breed is different as well. The smaller the breed..... it tends to take longer. But remember, you do not want to breed her on her first heat if you do decide to breed. You must wait for her to go into her second heat. When you breed a girl in her first heat, she is still too young to sometimes take care of her pups as well as health risks. You can start researching everything about breeding now and be well prepared when she is coming into her 2nd heat. Make sure she is tested by your vet and is a good size and of good health. Also looking for the right male is important too. Good Luck and we are here if you have anymore questions. |
Yorkies are still maturing and growing etc and need to have the time to do that before ever considering breeding. I don't breed any of my girls until they are between 20 and 24 months depending on timing of heats. Breeding on a first heat is definitely too young. Often her mother instincts don't kick in and you will end up raising a puppie's puppies. In answer to your question, a first heat can be any time from now until after a year of age even. Often it will be about 7 1/2 - 11 months of age but that isn't written in stone. |
First heat could be anywhere from 6 months to a year (and could even be longer in some dogs). First breeding should be held off until she is two years old. |
