New concern A while ago I had posted that Diezel would constantly chase his tail (so I thought) and constantly chew on his butt. Well tonight after giving him his bath as I was drying him I noticed that the area he continues to go after has a bald spot. The area does not seem wet or dry and flakey. And I see no irritation except 1 small red dot. But the bald spot is about the size of a quarter. Does anyone have any idea what this could be or should I run to the Vet like I usually do? |
"Bald spot about the size of a quarter" makes me think it is possibly a reaction to a shot. Gus has one and that is how I describe it (and how I've read others describe it) - it is from the rabies shot. His is high on his right back leg. Unfortunately, the hair will not grow back in if that's what it is. |
a picture of it would be great. it could be lots of things that's causing it |

Here it is. I looked at it again close and there is only 1 tiny red mark... I thought I saw flaky skin but the skin seems normal. |
hmm, that's weird that his hair would just fall out like that for no reason. has he been in contact with other dogs just before you noticed it or any other animals? was he at the vet and meet some new dogs? |

Since he is going after that spot alot I would take him back to teh vet so they can check it out. They'll probably want to take some skin scrapes of it to determine if its microbial. It could be a number of things. maybe ringworm, a bug bite, a scratch, yeast, demadex, etc.... these can all be treated with a little antibiotics. |
I think I would take him to the vet. Losing hair is not something to be taken lightly. There has to be some probloem, or he would not be biting at it constantly. |
U got me If I was you I would just run to the vet. I am sure ur baby is fine but just for ur peace of mind....It could just be hereditary. |
Could he have ring work? doesnt ring worm cause them to loose hair? Help me out here ladies and gents, also I am not sure if you ment he is actually pulling it out? if so maybe with it being so close to the bum area (Dont know how to say it politely) anyhow could his anal glands be packed and he is chewing as close to the area as he can get to it? But I suggest a vet vistit asap. Something isnt right,. Rena |
i was thinking it was his anal glands too at first |
Thanks everyone for the advice.. we are going to the Vet in a couple hours. Will keep you posted! |
I deal with alot of ringworm at work and it does look quite a bit like it from what i can see from your pic. Ringworm is a fungal infection that needs to be treated or it will spread and is very itchy and contagious. Humans can catch it so check yourself over for any red marks! It doesnt always make the skin flaky either. You probably dnt have a black light at home but if you shine a black light on ring worm it glows green which is probably how your vet will check. T-tree oil will sooth it untill you can get to your vets. |
