Reproduction Jaxon, my male yorkie is 17 weeks and I know that he is not sexually mature yet, but I can't seem to find any information on how old they have to be before they can begin breeding? |
They can be fertile as early as 6 months, but have to be over 7 months for the litter to be registered with AKC. Many female owners want a dog to be at least a year, preferably 18 months (or proven) so they don't waste a heat with an inexperienced stud. |
Thank you. I couldnt find out anything on the net. Looks like we have a few more months to go. I was confused because a couple of weeks ago, he started humping my other dog. I think she was as confused as me.:D |

yep...my kirby was humping and still is since he was 10 weeks. |
My puppy humped his toys at 8 weeks... Well - we know - he certainly was older enough to be fathering a litter. He is 9 months old now - and hasn't been neutered yet - but will be soon. He really doesn't do a lot of humping ---mainly because I have taken the toys away from him (stuffed animals) that he generally did this with. Carol Jean |
Its not the toys in my house that get humped! Its Poor Pixie!! Paris Humps her all the time!!! She is soooo the Alpha Female!!! You really have to do a double take when she does it.... Like.. is she???? Yep! |
Thanx a bunch. They are a hilarious bunch. All of them have such strong personalities. Mynxie is still holding domain in this house. Jax tries his best but so far has established no ground. It is a trip to watch them. It is like she is supposed to be the male. |
