ears down? I recently got my first dog, a yorkie! He is currently 10 weeks and 2.4 pounds. His ears are down and not erect at all. Is this normal for a puppy his age? Is there anything I can do to make them stand up that is harmless? I already have the hair on his ears trimmed down. Also on a side note, if he’s 2.4 pounds now, how big will he probably get when full grown? I feed Him Nutra Lamb Puppy food, and mix some Wellness in 2-3 days of the week. I am not too concerned with his adult size (I got the biggest one in the litter purposely so he wouldn’t be too delicate). I’m just wondering. Thanks in advance for any advice. |
I can't offer you much advice I'm afraid but merely wanted to congratulate you on your pup!! What's his name?! I have a year old yorkie, Gypsy Rose and awaiting a sister for her in 3 wks -saw her again yesterday (she's 5wks now!). Gypsy Rose's ears were upright at 8 weeks when we had her and she has LOTS of hair on her ears, never did anything to them not even trimmed the hair BUT as I'm sure others will tell you they all differ and your yorkies ears could well stand up yet. Bet he's gorgeous - do tell us about him! Ana xx |
Welcome abord Waysh0, I'm new to this site as well. As far as the ears, aside from having 1/3 of the ear trimmed as you already have my vet taped my previous Yorkies ears together and it worked great. Ask your vet about it or you can just wait around eventually they will go up, I knew somebody whose yorkie had 1 ear up and the other down, eventually they both went up. |
His name is Teddy Baby... But Ive been calling him Binky for some reason, hehe. He whines and whines when he doesnt get his way. Ive already spoiled him to death in the last 2 weeks of having him. He likes to play with other dogs a lot. His best friend is a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix named Jake. He likes to pull on Jakes ears and chase his tail. His favorite thing to do is act like a cat and stalk his stuffed animals and then pounch on them. Its the funniest thing. Then, he will hop around like a little bunny rabbit. He hates his harness and leash, and he doesnt like riding in the car unless he has a lap to sit on. Its funny how happy this little guy makes me. I have such severe mother's syndrome. I cant sleep through the night. I keep checking on him and wake up at 3am for potty time without an alarm clock. |
I like the name Binky, it sounds so cute. I'm listening to you and it's like dejavoue all over again. These babies do bring so much joy to our hearts, I don't see how anyone can not fall in love with them at first sight. Attach some pictures....... |

Welcome to the site! Your baby looks so cute! :) Read the following thread regarding floppy ears. There's a lot of good info on there! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...highlight=ears |
What a lovely baby!! IF the ears stay down , may I say they actually suit your baby that way?!! Ana xx |
Are there any instructions or photos of how to tape the ears and what to use? |
Sadie, I believe your vet should be doing this, but here are a couple of photos I came across, hope it helps..... http://images.snapfish.com/33%3B6634...B6664792ot1lsi http://images.snapfish.com/33%3B6634...B6664994ot1lsi I just love Binky's pictures, he's absolutely darling, isn't it funny how they look like rockweilers a first and then they turn into such beautiful swans. |

I know a little bit about yorkies;we've had 6 litters this year; if your pup weights 3 lb at 12 weeks;he should be around 6 lb when grown jer_lin |
My baby's ears didn't stand up until she was 12 weeks old. They would be up for a short while then fold down again but now they are up all the time. |
Zach's one ear flops down when he's tired but I think he looks so cute that way. |
