Microchipping How much does it cost to microchip? Is there an age limit? What is the actual process? :aimeeyork Thanks I'll be looking forward to your responses |
I microchip all of my dogs at various ages though. Large breeds I wait a little longer (around 6-7 months). If done sooner during their heavier growth spurts the chip tends to travel a bit. Not really a big problem, just a hassle. As far as the Yorkies go, I have them chipped around 5 months. The gauge of needle they use is somewhat intimidating, most dogs do experience a bit more pain than when they receive their vaccines, but seem to quickly forget about it. A lot of vets will actually take the dog in back to do this. It's been my experience that the "going rate" from east to west coast is about $40-$60. This is to include the chip and your one time registry fee. Also, I wanted to mention that if you can get the AVID chip, I would. According to their stocks and to their purchase lists AVID is THE number one sold chip in the US to date as well as their scanners. Since that's the case, I'm inclined to believe that that's up'd my odds for any lost ones out there w/ their chip since they're scanners are out there in the largest numbers as well. Those buying the chip are both public and private parties. jm2c I hope this helps! (I have my ferrets/birds/horses/cats all chipped as well! And there is a discount for multiple registry households) |
I have every one of my dogs microchipped. It cost around $35 for the HomeAgain chip (the AKC chip) and if you get it inserted along with another surgery no extra anesthesia is necessary so that's all it cost me. |
I have 2 yorkies and 1 lab, they are all microchipped. Microchipping is covered by the health insurance plan that they have. It's definatly worth having them chipped, you just never know :) |
I have both of my babies microchiped, it makes me feel a little safer if they ever get away. I paid $35 for it which isn't bad it's the Avid micro. Here is a nice sight that explains every thing you would want to know. http://www.avidmicrochip.com/index.htm |
I just got my girl hannah fixed on tuesday and I had her microchipped at the same time with the avid chip it was about $45.00. I use to do rescue and always got the dogs chipped, its come in handy as on of my rescues dug out and someone brought her tothe pound and they scanned him and called me. I thinks its a great idea. I think they should microchip Kids LOL!!! |
Both of my girls are microchipped!! We did then when they were about a year old, just because we didn't know about it before. They did great through, Magic whined a little bit but Sailor didn't even seem to notice!! I would defintely recommend it, you never know when they need it and it not that expensive at all!! |
Cali didn't get chipped when she was spayed because it was done during an emergency surgery at an ER Clinic that didn't do that. They also didn't remove all of her baby teeth which she has retained so I don't know wether to wait until I get her dental done in a few months or chip her w/o being under? |
The chipping process stings just a little more than a normal shot does, so if you aren't getting her teeth removed chip her. My little girls hardly seemed like they noticed at all. |
I just called and made an appointment for next Tuesday to get both of them microchipped. It will be about 100.00 total. |
Thanks Thanks gals Sounds like a good idea. I'm gonna call to get it done soon Minnies a little to friendly at times. |
Rocco (my rescue yorkie I got last summer) was microchipped when we got his teeth cleaned in February, it cost $40 for the microchip. Bella is going into the vet Jun 6th, she will be 17-1/2 weeks, for shots and will be getting her microchip at the sam time. The vet I used to work for uses Avid. The itty bitty chip is given thru a syringe into the muscle, right between the shoulder blades. |
Gizmo got chipped today! It was 65 at my vet.... But no office visit charge.... so it was not bad... he also have everything else under the sun done! I think the chip is great! You can never be too carefull!!!! |
I microchip through CKC All of my yorkies were microchipped. I got their microchips through the CKC (Continental Kennel Club for $30.00 and had my vet do them. There was no extra cost to register the microchips. I love it. I will buy all of my future microchips through CKC. I think microchipping is important because most places are required to scan for microchips and if a pet is stolen it increases the chances of locating the missing pet! ~Tru |
All mine are chipped. Very, very important to do in my opinion especially since most of the little ones don't wear collars with tags. |
