Do other dogs cause barking? I have searched the threads but I couldnt find anything that expressed my specific concern. My next door neighbor just got 2 adult and 1 puppy pit bull(!!!) and they basically bark all freakin day..I have gotten to the point where i can ignore it,it drives my man crazy cuz he hasnt had the time I have had to deal. My concern is that their excessive barking will pump my soon to be pup up. I know that my dog may bark..and I am reading up on correcting it. I am just concerned that their crazy barking will impede my training.Anyone have experience and/or advice, suggestions? I plan to keep the windows closed..but dogs have great hearing..lol. Am I getting concerned about nothing? |
Well...I noticed no one had an answer - and neither do I :p - but I have dogs on all sides and my girls really don't bark when they hear the others barking - BUT...if something is going on - Like Lawn Dudes - or Cable guys...Meter Men etc....then ...they bark their butts off. Great little Alarms yorkies are. I would just see how it goes and IF you see your yorkie trying to join in for no reason....just take appropiate measures to stop the barking....you can read lots of training info on the net. |
I think as long as you correct your dog for barking all will be fine. I have dogs around me and they bark all the time but mine don't bark that much.:aimeeyork |
Mine always go crazy barking when they hear another dog barking |
We have dogs all around us. Mac & Mellie start barking only when 1 particular dog starts barking. I also noticed that they will not bark at ALL dogs on the TV but only certain dogs that are barking on the TV. I wonder if it is a certain pitch or a certain way in which they bark. I know that Mac & Mellie have different barks for different things. Maybe they are speaking to each other. |

Given all the recent tragedies in NY involving Pit Bulls, I'd be more concerned about them getting to your baby. Make sure your yard is super secure!!! Oh yeah... :D Welcome to YT and congratulations on your upcoming addition!!! I'm from Jersey, too. Monmouth County at the shore. |
barking I think alot of barking is learned. Kate rarely barks..so Emee is following her lead and has barked about 3 times so far. I took Emee to visit Beau..he is Kate's 1/2 bro. Beau is a barker and Emee wasnt in the door 5 minutes and she was barking right back in his face...Beau barks just to hear himself bark I think..LOL |
We are surrounded by barking dogs all the time. This poor boxer in back of us is always barking and it doesn't seem to faze gus one bit. The only time Gus barks with him is when we are outside and they are running back and forth barking. One on one side of the gate and the one on the other. The only time Gus goes crazy and barks is if there is a dog or cat or anyone he doesn't know for that matter. |
Would it make sense to talk to the neighbor if he could get his dogs to shut up? I know if somebody has pitbulls then he is maybe not the most understanding of neighbors. How about the authorities? Mitzi barked along our (new) neighbors dog at the beginning. But now, after about 7 months she ignores him as we do. He doesn't bark a lot, by the way.:aimeeyork |

Anyway... I live in a duplex and my parents (who live downstairs) have a Beagle that barks... rather, howls... at anything and everything. I don't think Pixie barks any more than she would otherwise because of Princess's barking. But if you end up with a barker, I think if you consistently worked with it you would eventually have a nice quiet pup that could care less if other dogs are making any noise. |
Thanks for your responses. I don't plan on having my pet in the "yard" so to speak. we dont have a yard..its a shared courtyard that is not secured ..so that is a definite no no. this neighbor is not a part of our complex. when he got the 1st 2 dogs...he is on a second pair i think.i cant tell...he may be doing something illegal..we have already called the police...its scary though. They are not the nicest people..they have "problems" and i will leave it at that. The guy who actually owns them ..is only there a few weekends a month..i think he lives in Deleware.we have been looking for him but havent seen him yet. so when the cops come..they speak to people who live in apartments in the house and they could care less. I will talk to the "owner" as soon as i see him...i think he actually has people keeping the dogs there....but i am not sure. I will keep all your advice in mind and correct as needed. As i said their barking bothers my man more and he is the "Call the law" i barely notice it..and if THEY are barking...maybe no one will notice if mines does...ya dig?! my baby is due tomorrow. yippy!!   :D :D |
Bailey reacts with BARKING to dogs he doesn't know.. if they bark he barks, if they stroll by " his " house he looses it, I have noticed the BIGGER that dog, the BIGGER the comotion in my house. If a dog he knows, does go by he gets all excited, wiggle butt, but no barking, it's so funny how they know their buddies. Or if my neighbors dogs bark, he doesn't, he knows them. |
My Yorkie isn't a barker, but will often (not always) bark if he hears another dog barking. And, he will bark whenever he hears a dog barking on TV. On the other hand, my Bichon won't start barking if my Yorkie barks. I believe that my Yorkies barks when he hears other dogs --if it is barking that he doesn't expect or isn't used to -- TV, etc. He seems to have become used to one of our neighborhood dogs barking often (he's used to hearing this dog bark), and it doesn't seem to phase him anymore. So - hopefully, after a while, your pup will get used to the neighborhood dogs barking and end up not paying much attention to it. Carol Jean |
