Please Help??? I have a 2 1/2 year old yorkie that had 3 beautiful babies on Sunday. ONe of them has a cleft pallet, is this a death sentence or is there anything I should be doing special. He seems to be nursing a little. |
I sure don't have any knowledge with that, but I will say a prayer for your little one! Have you had him to the vet? I think some cleft pallets are worse than others! I think your vet would be able to tell you how serious his is. Others on here know more than me, so hopefully you'll get some answers! Good luck and best wishes to your new babies and the proud mom! |
You need to begin bottle feeding. Here's a link that explains why. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/cleft.htm |
Congrats for the pups. Im not a breeder so I dont know the answer. I just wanted to tell you that I will have the little guy, mom and the other pups in my prayers. Please keep us posted. |

he seems to have milk around his mouth and can suck on a finger should i try to bottle feed anyway. I called the vet and he said that they either live or not there is not a lot that can be done, I want to give him every chance for a healthy life. |

Good luck, Gena. I hope all the babies and momma is doing well. Keep us updated on the pup with cleft pallet. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!! |
I have a pup with a cleft pallatte...her name is Lizzy and she is almost 8 months old....feel free to Pm me with questions.....by the way....she is doing great.....no problems with eating...but as a new born we fed her every hour until she was 3 weeks old and then every 2 hours until she was about 5 weeks old we used syringes and different bottles...it was really hard work to find what worked best...but it was sooo worth it!! |
