APRI Registration???
 
What exactly is APRI? I have always known akc and all of my dogs are akc. I have heard bad things about APRI but you will have that with any dog registry. So is APRI a good dog registry, or is it like CKC. If it is good and legit how come you don't see many dogs registered with them, atleast here there has been very few. Just need some info and opinions of the matter. Thanks!!!

I don't really know the difference between the registries. Buttercup is registered with APRI and I've had no problems with them. I don't intend on showing or breeding him so registration isn't important to me.

I love APRI all of my dogs (except my ACA dogs) are dual registered with them. I am working on getting the rest of my dogs registered with them as well. APRI is a very helpful registry. I find I like working with them alot better than AKC. JMO:thumbup:

Many use APRI registration because they have two AKC registered dogs, but they have limited registration on one or both parents (means that they were suppose to get the dog spayed or neutered and the puppies are not eligible to be registered with AKC) so APRI will register them for you so you can advertise them as being registered even though they are not eligible for registration through AKC.

Buttercup,

So your puppy is most likely 100% Yorkie or as sure as you can be with an AKC registration. The catch is - Why did the breeder limit registration - was it to limit breeding competition? did the puppy not meet the standard? does the puppy carry a genetic defect? Of course, there are many registered AKC who also do not fit the standard and have genetic defects. I would purchase a APRI registered puppy, but would expect to pay less than an AKC registration for two identical dogs.

the person i got buttercup from says that only purebred dogs can be registered with apri. is that correct? and how would one know that the breeder is misrepresenting the parents as a purebreed?

Yes, it is as correct as saying 'only purebred dogs can be registered with AKC', but we all know that sometimes breeders breed a female that is not papered and use another dog's papers for registration so it is possible to have an APRI or AKC registered dog that is not actually purebred. Some people question an APRI registration because maybe the breeder has been blocked from AKC because of wrongdoing.

So I guess these registrations are only as honest as the people who use them.
