Took Sebi to the Vet Today Over the past 1.5 days, Sebastian has been clingy, unactive not eating much and his tummy was making loud sounds.. No vomit and I had not been able to catch a stool sample. This morning my dh yells out Sebastian just went on the carpet. His stool with tar-like, dark and with a tint of red. I freaked out. Called the vet went in right away. He said he probbaly has a stomach bug, not to worry. Than he asked have you changed his food, YES, I have been intergrading Dick Pattens Raw Food. He said don't give any more. raw food is a good concept IF we had wild dogs, but they have been breed so much and domesticated that they require cooked food because with these little dogs they can't breakdown any weird parasites. He said any holistic food is OKAY, but NO RAW. He recently had a golden retreiver that got a piece of RAW steak got sick and died. Then as the vet examines Sebastian he said Sebastians 2 hind knees get dislocated and he will probably need surgery when he's between 7 and 9 (currently 1.5). The vet said its very common in small dogs and is heriditary. |
Hi there sorry your baby isn't feeling well. I too tried raw food once on Georgie and needless to say he wouldn't touch it. I wasn't too sure about the raw food idea anyways, so thank you for that information. Also, my niece found out 2 weeks ago that her Yorkie Olivers hind knees get disclocated as well. I told her that he occasionally walked a little strange, and the vet told her that same thing and that he pops them back into place. |
The vet asked me does he walk funny, I have never noticed. He jumps around the house like crazy. He weighed in today at 6.5 # and the vet said that's an ideal weight for his size and be sure to keep his weight in check. Thanks for responding Ü |
The vet told my mom that her yorkie would have to have surgery on her knees when she was older. But, my mom's yorkie is so spoiled and such an alpha dog, and she has never spent a second in a crate. The surgery would literally kill her. So, the vet said that she could just take arthritis meds for her knees and not have to have the surgery. You could do that if you really don't want to go through that surgery. It is also VERY VERY expensive. |
