"marley" broke my heart...... I am not a wimp - and I don't cry easily... but, I read "Marley and Me" this weekend and I cried and cried and cried. I can promise you that the better part of the book is delightful, fun, funny, and everything you'd want to read in a book. But, I just want to warn those of you who consider yourselves to be the least bit sensitive ... you may not want to go near the latter part of the book with a ten-foot pole. However, many people (who perhaps haven't lost a dog as recently as I have) with ten boxes of kleenex seem to make it through this book in relatively good shape. But, even these people - the tougher among us - admit to a few tears. The ten people on my list waiting to borrow my book are dwindling quickly... one by one they are admitting to having heard how sad parts of it are. Read it at your own risk. . . most of it is just wonderful! Carol Jean |
I read it and it was so sad but really a good book. |
My Tuesday volunteer tells me each week that I need to read this book... haven't yet... |

I actually got through most of the book very quickly. Towards the end, when I just knew what was going to happen, I couldn't read it. The book sat on my coffee table for a month and a half before I could work up the courage to finish it. Even though my experience was heart-wrenching, I'm glad I read it. It ends on a positive note. You'll want to hug your puppies!!!! |
I saw that book at Wal-Mart and almost bought it to take on a plane trip with me-probably a good idea I didn't. I do want to read it though. I'm reading Cesar Milan's book right now....feeling guilty about being a bad pack leader still... |
I LOVED Marley and Me. It was sad, but it was also beautiful how they loved him. We don't want to face the fact that we will out live our beloved pets, but that is the reality. I cried like a baby, but I've recommended the book to a lot of people. |
??????????? What is the book about if u don't mind me asking??????Thanks......... |
It is a great story, it's about a man and his dog and his wife, and their lives together, till thee end. A true story. |
Cool Sounds good...I think I might get it....Thanks for the info... |
I am half way through the book, and have already shed a few tears. But, heck, I took Sadie in for her first teeh cleaning session today, and was an emotional wreck with that. She is just fine, but very, very sleepy and it is now 10:15P. She has slept since I brought her home. |
Again - I think my having lost a dog so recently made the end of this book especially hard for me to read. For those of you who haven't read it, it is the story of a family's life with a labrador retriever. They had Murphy from the time he was a puppy until he reached old age and eventually had to be put to sleep. These years go from their being newly married through their having three children. It is an extremely heartwarming story. And, many of the experiences and stories told about this dog will have you both laughing and crying. They referred to him as the most loveable "worst dog in the world." Without any details, it is a sad ending -- simply because "dogs don't live as long as we do," but the end result is that this wonderful dog brought much joy, happiness, and an understanding of life to the author and his family. I really do recommend this book. But, be prepared to fall in love with Murphy and share his family's sorrow when the time comes to "let him go." Carol Jean |
