Need a little reassuring..... I need all my fellow YT'ers to reassure me. I went out of town this weekend with my sister-in-law and we went to her nieces baby shower. The shower was held at her friends house not hers. Anyways long story short we went there and I was standing out on the deck and happened to look over the edge and there were 2 dogs outside. They were large dogs (at least 100lbs each) in it looked like a 6x6 area. I noticed the dogs were very matted and dirty and one had no hair on it's tail (look like the fleas were eating them both up). I honestly felt like I was watching an episode of animal precinct on Animal Planet. I have never ever seen dogs that looked that neglected. The kicker was when I saw pee on the ground and the area was so small one of the dogs had no choice but to lay in it. I told my sister-in-law (who is a dog lover as well) to look to make sure I wasn't seeing things, and she agreed it was very bad. I went down to talk to the dogs and started to cry, it was then I knew I had to do something. Well not only did I confront the owner of the dogs, but as soon as I got home today I called the humane society in their area to report them. Please reassure me that it was the right thing to do. In my heart I knew I had too, but I feel bad that an officer was being sent to their house they have a son who is under 10. However I would have felt even worse if I didn't do anything. Thanks:) |
I think you did the right thing I would have done the same. |
You did the right thing...to be a friend of a neglected, suffering dog is our duty, not our choice..they will never forget your kindness to them..make sure the Humane Soc follows through. |
You absolutely did the right thing. Dogs have no way to get help if humans don't step in. If those people aren't caring for the dogs why do they even want them. That always boggles my mind. How can you say you love your dog and then neglect it. Why not take them to the animal shelter and drop them off. |
:good job: You did what you are suppose to do! Some people are so heartless it's difficult not to hate them! They should lock those owners up and throw away the key!! |

You ABSOLUTELY did the right thing!!! You go girl! |
you did the right thing .  |
You absolutely did the right thing. I had a neighbor once that ket their dog tied in the back yard which is in itself not such a bad thing, but they kept it tied out of reach of shade (in the summer time) and it would always knock its water 'pot' over (they used a cooking pot for a water bowl, nice huh) anyway, I repeatedly took the dog water and told them that the dog needs to be in the shade and they said the only shade was next to the house and then he jumped on the doors wanting in. So i called the humane socitey too, and they came out and talked to them and they did move the dog next to the house for a couple of days and then they moed it back into the middle of the yard. So I called them again and then the dog mysteriously disappeared. The owner accused me of taking it but I honestly didn't (I thought about it and wanted to) I think the humane society rescued it, or had someone else rescue it. So, anyway, I want to applaud your actions, stupid pet owners don't deserve to have pets and it's only from people like you that the dogs lives can be improved. Good job!!! :bravo: |

I asked the owner why do you have dogs if you don't take care of them and her response was that one of the dogs was left by the original owners of the house. I told her that there was no excuse and that dogs deserve to be cared for and loved. If they didn't want too someone else would. |

Thank you and I will follow-up tomorrow. I actually got the dispatchers name and I told her if I didn't hear anything by tomorrow I would be calling back. I want to make sure something is done to help those poor dogs. |
You were absolutely right to report the abuse. It is always good to follow your heart, and if it is telling you what needs to be done, then go with it. Try not to feel bad about there being a child in the home. My experience has always been that people tend to treat their pets and children in the same manner.(JMO) So maybe you were also helping the child, plus what was he learning about caring for animals?.....I hope that you feel better. I am sure it was not easy for you. |

I told her that it was terrible that their child would grow and up and think that it was okay to neglect animals. Thanks for the reassurance;) |
Bravo!! We need more people in the world who are not afraid to do something for fear of getting involved. Those dogs will be better for it and who cares about the owners, they don't deserve consideration. |
I FOR SURE would have done the same thing - that's awful....those poor poor dogs - you did the RIGHT THING ! If we don't watch out for neglected pets - then they're at the mercy of guardians that maybe really don't know they're neglecting them - OR they don't want to pay for medical attention - so they just blow it off...or they plain just don't care - and THAT is the worst. Either way - the authorities can put a scare into them and hopefully the dogs will be much better off because of your call. WAY TO GO - you did a good thing |
