What do you think about this situation?
 

As most of you know, I recently moved into a new house. It's a duplex, so my neighbors and I share "common area." Well we have a fence in the backyard (take a gander at pic) that 'separates' our backyard from theirs. Well, there are 4 openings in the fence that have trees in between instead of a fence. Needless to say, Baby likes to go into their yard.
Well, a couple weeks ago I mentioned to her that I was thinking about connecting the spaces in the fence with more fence. She said, "Well, I really like the trees there. They're pretty."
Well, I let it go....UNTIL tonight. Here's what happened.....
I took Baby in the backyard to go pee. I didn't have her on a leash (my fault) which I haven't been using. She went into their yard, as she's done before. But this time she started running from me! She ran under their fence into the front yard! They had a lock on their fence gate, so I had to RUN through the house into the front yard. Luckily, this little brat was waiting for me on the front lawn! I scolded her gritting my teeth, "GET IN HERE!!!" She came, thank God. But I was so POed and upset at the same time.
So, like it or not, this beotch next door is going to have to deal with me getting a fence all the way across. Did I mention, she also has a big, non-neutered chocolate lab?
So, how can I approach her nicely w/o getting an attitude. (I usually get attitude fast...can't help it.:rolleyes: ) Matt's afraid that I might start a rivalry and they'll make our lives a living h**l. Shoot, nobody can beat me at the making lives h**l game!!! :D

Why approach her at all? Just put up some new fence. You won't even have to see her! LOL

We replaced our chain link fence with wood privacy fencing a while back because we hated our stupid annoying prying neighbors and their out of control children we used to have. I think it hurt their feelings but I do think they got the hint and I never had to say a word... :D

You're funny! I wish I could do that, but they are "our" trees in between. She can have them, I don't care. But do you think I should chop off my side of the trees and put up the fence, dig them up and replant them in her yard, or let HER dig them up and replant them? This is gonna cause problems, I can feel it in my soon to be 30 year old bones! :eek:

Well we actually had a similar problem. So we gave up about two feet of our property all the way down our property line (almost an acre). We put the fencing around the obstacles. LOL! See how much we hated these people and did NOT want to have one more conversation with them? ;)

Wow! Well our yard is pretty small to begin with, so I'm not giving up anything. Except the trees. They can have them. :rolleyes: My cousin is into privacy, and I'm into not losing my dog, so they will have to deal. They can kiss my big fat toe for all I care. :eek: :D

By the way...I HAVE to have that pink polka dot dress for Baby!!! I think I'm gonna go buy it now. I have been eyeing it for weeks! ;) :D

PS. Will your size small fit a 14" belly?

Similar situation
 

A similar situation happened to my cousin, when they purchased their first dog, an English Springer Spanial. The difference being it was their neighbors that wanted the fence because the dog kept running into their yard. They didn't want the dog peeing on their grass. They had a hedge between the two yards, so after asking nicely if my cousing could please keep the dog on her own side, (she wasn't always watched outside) , They ran a chainlink fence on their side of the hedge.
So I'm wondering could you put something like that along your side of the trees? just an idea, I am always afraid of getting on the wrong side of people , lol , I'm a bit of a fraidy cat lol.:eek:

Well..if you are planning to live in this place for a while I would try to do all I could to be neighborly. I think offering to help dig up and move the trees to her side is a gracious thing to do and then if she agrees you can put up the rest of the fence. Good Luck.

Why not chop the tree's down so u do not loose any of you boundary and buy her two small trees to put in her garden and just say u did not what to upset her if you dog pooped in her garden. Make out its more for her benefit not getting on with neigbours can be a real pain.

Looking at your picture I may have a simple solution for you
that would save everyone's feelings. We have a fence around
our pool. Needless to say our little ones could go through the
fence because of the spacing involved. We needed a solution
that was not tacky but still affective. We went to Lowe's and
looked around and found in the garden center a heavy plastic
type mesh that comes in various widths and rolls out and you
can just staple it in between the fence sections that are there
right now. We got some that is only 2.5 feet high. It was an
instant solution, is inexpensive and is way better than chicken
wire and safer too. The neighbors would not lose their view and
you would not lose your dog. We also have Labs so that was
a concern as well, but they sell one that is 48 inches high that
the Lab would not be able to jump over.Let me know if you
have any interest and I will see if I can find you what the actual
name of the product is.

I actually am using a similar product on my back deck. I have pretty large openings in the railings, and I was scared to death that the pups would fall off the deck, so I put up some plastic netting. You can't even see it unless you are looking for it.

If you joined the fence up would you "have" to take down the tree. On the pictures it looks like you could just push the branches behind the new fence.

Do you know what I mean?

I hope your neighbour is a little more understanding next time you ask them, after all you shouldn't have to have your baby on a lead while in your own garden :rolleyes: :)

p.s i love the decking on the house behind, we're getting something like that soon :)

Maybe you can build a little jog of fence coming out into your yard around the tree and connecting to the existing fence. It shouldn't bother the neighbor. What a silly way to do a fence in the first place. Sort of defeats the purpose of fence for most people. What if you had a small child and her big lab kept breaking through the trees? Something would have to be done.

I wouldn't give up any of your yard either. In most areas, after so long a period, especially if the neighbor takes care of the part you give up, it can legally become theirs. I would check on this if you even consider it. I'm a little like you it sounds..... I would put up the fence and let them buy their own trees. After all the safety of your baby is most important!!!
