What to do about bad breath! Hello all. I don't know if this is the right thread so if it isn't, moderators, please feel free to move the thread =) The problem that I'm experiencing is that I have a 16 week old yorkie puppy whose breath stinks  hehe. It's not so bad but it's noticeable enough to go "................" I heard that puppies aren't supposed to have breath problems? I'm thinking that the cause may be her gums bleeding from teething, but what other causes could there be? And what can I do about this? I dont' want her on the greenies b/c I know of some dogs who are addicted to them! Any help is greatly appreciated! TIA |
I she eating her poop by any chance? |
No she usually sniffs at it from time to time but she never eats her poop. |
Another cause for bad breath may be because she's losing her baby teeth. But, 4-months old is pretty young; it usually happens between 5 and 6 months. Open her mouth to see if she had any teeth that looked swollen at the gum line area. They may appear swollen, purplish, a little bruised. Wiggle any of them to see they're lose. |
Malibu's breath doesn't smell the greatest. He is nine months and my in-laws have yorkies that are 7 and 9 years old and his breath is definately worse than theirs. I don't know why though. He only eats dog food and his treats are milk bones. He chews on rawhide sticks and toys all the time so his teeth are very clean... |
I am sure she is just teething. Hobbs breath was AWEFUL from around 4 months to around 7 months. We had to get some of Hobbs' baby teeth pulled that didn't fall out before his breath started to smell better. But now, it's super fresh! |
