Trying to save $ and cut my baby's hair! Can anyone else relate? With gas prices so high I decided to save some $$ and cut my JacJac's hair by myself! (my husband will be so proud of me!) :p I started out doing okay. I was slowly gaining confidence...then whoops - a little too short...I'll just even it out a bit... Whoops! a little too short on the other side...it's almost summer, it should be okay.... Whoops! kind of uneven.... oh no! it's starting to look bad! His body is cut too short and his head is still big & fluffy! It's been an hour...Jac's wants out! He looks terrible! I'm sweating! I'm scared to touch his head - he might end up bald! I shouldn't have been such a cheapy! I think I'll take him for walks after dark! It'll only take about a month for all that hair to grow back - right? My groomer should get a good laugh... He's still cute....to me? My poor baby! An innocent victim as a result of high gas prices in the U.S. |

Oh my!!! I really didn't want to read about this because I'm going to try and groom Reuger!!!   I'm afraid that I'm going to mess up and make him look really awful. I can just see me doing the trimming to keep everything even just like you did. Maybe in a week or so you'll see my post on my grooming!!! The good news is that it will grow back so don't quit grooming just because of this experience. I figure that everyone has to start somewhere (also, I have a t-shirt ready just in case!!!) |

I think our pups usually look better when they go to the groomer ---- BUT that doesn't mean we can't learn to do a "good enough job." I have two dogs and for me, $70 or so every six weeks or two months is a lot of money - just for grooming. So, I do both. I take them to the groomer occasionally and cut them myself also. Remember that "hair grows" and that you will get better with practice. Don't expect your first haircuts to look like a professional did them. *** I rarely use the clippers. I mainly do a "scissors cut." But a lot of people prefer clippers for many areas. The face is the hardest part for me to do. Not, because it's difficult, but because my pup is a wiggleworm and won't hold still if I'm near his face/eyes, etc. You'll need to know how you want to cut him. Take pictures of him when he has been groomed the way you want to cut him. Or - get some pictures off YT....they are a lot of great ones here. Good luck - "Practice makes perfect" --- well - maybe not perfect, but at least acceptable. Carol Jean |

Oh No! I'm sure it still looks cute anyway. I cut Ella's myself but I am lucky because she has a bit of a curl in her fur and it disguises any mistakes I make. I actually enjoyed doing it and she was really good about it. It is growing long again for the winter but I will cut it again in summer!! Hope you can fix yours!! :) |
