Write to OPRAH!!! Please write to OPRAH about puppy mills. If everyone write their concerns to her, maybe she will do show about the mills and get people aware of whats going on. It angers me so much to see what they are doing to these poor creatures. Please write to her. |
That's probably a good idea. You could even write to some of the news shows on at night, like 20/20 or primetime Thursday or ones of those. |
That is such a great idea! She is the right person.. I admire her very much because she is so giving and intelligent and really, honestly cares about the less fortunate people of this world. She also adores animals as much as any of us! :p She's coming to Dallas soon and I was trying to get a ticket to her show. They were abount $150... can you believe it sold out in 1 minute? That's crazy! Some lady told me that they are sold out nationwide for any date, any city. |
wow...that is a great idea...we should organize this. We all (members) can send it, and also notify members of other forums... |
Don't mean to be stupid but can you explain or give me info about puppy mill? Thanks |
here's a link about them . . . http://www.stoppuppymills.org/ |
the basic intro to that site about puppymills says . . . Puppy mills are nothing new. These mass dog-breeding operations have been around for decades, but they continue to be a problem because unsuspecting consumers keep buying those adorable puppies in the pet store window. Or on some slick Internet site. Or even through an ad in the trusted local newspaper. But behind the friendly façade of these pet shops, web sites, and newspaper ads, there often lies a puppy mill. These canine breeding facilities frequently house dogs in shockingly poor conditions, particularly for "breeding stock" animals who are caged and continually bred for years, without human companionship and with little hope of ever becoming part of a family. After their fertility wanes, breeding animals are commonly killed, abandoned or sold to another mill. The annual result of all this breeding is hundreds of thousands of puppies, many with behavior and/or health problems. The puppies will be shipped cross country by truck to be sold in pet shops, but many are also sold via newspaper classifieds or Internet sites — and are often accompanied by false claims such as, "We'd never sell puppies from a puppy mill." |
Can I? Can I post on this forum a pet store (by name) that falls under these conditions? |

I think that's a great idea. personally, I have a few choice words for Oprah, but I respect many of the things she does. Her shows in Chicago are free, but they're booked until the end of time. |
Oprah's shows are great and so are her topics. I would think along with the letters being sent to her she would want "people on her stage to talk about the puppy mills", so who is going to volunteer? hahahhaa |

Great idea! I love Oprah! :) |
Yes, Oprah does great work for lots of good causes! Oh man, I can just see it now, YorkieTalk mentioned on Oprah, and none of us can access the site because the servers get totally swamped... :p |
I love Oprah!!!!!!!!!!! She is my favorite celeb. |
Great idea but, this has already been done. There was a huge petition that went around and it was sent to Oprah's people .Nothing has come of it yet. I'm sure writting to her wouldn't ever hurt either. I wrote this morning to someone at NBC that I'm working with right now about the problem. So ladies and Gents, let's keep plugging at it. Does anyone know what ever came of the Maltese miller in Texas I believe it was? Then the Judge said he wanted to sell the dogs all 200 of them at a auction ( of all PLACES!). So they could recoupe all the money the town lost. For God's sake everyone has lost it! Does anyone remember this one? It was a huge thing then I just never heard anything again. This too had a petition. Teri :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
Here is the story |
I think it would more effective if OPRAH received hundreds of emails from individuals rather than a petition with a lot of peoples names on it. If she is over-whelmed with emails and letters, it might make her take notice. I would notice hundreds of emails or letters than one document with hundreds of names on it. What do you think? |
I agree, that individual mail/email may be more effective. Sadly, there seems to be an online petition for a lot of things these days (not saying that they aren't all worth signing, etc) I just signed one to keep Joan of Arcadia on TV. I'm working on a letter to Oprah. I'll post it when I'm finished. |
Oprah connection ...maybe I could ask my husband's cousin who works for Oprah if she has any ideas in addressing this to Oprah. It's so nice to have a connection...has anyone ever been to a show...I highly recommend it. It's so cool to see her in person...oh, it's not bad to see Brad Pitt in person also!!!! One of the shows I went to, he was the guest to promote his movie Troy, sorry...I know this is a Yorkie forum, not a Brad Pitt forum but I could go on and on about how cute he is! |

Ooo! Lucy's Mom has the hookup! I think it would be worth mentioning to your husband's cousin, anyway! As to Brad Pitt - he's okay, but Joaquin Phoenix is my boyfriend ;) |
So, I call Ims today like the video says... They put me on with a rep. She trys to tell me that PETA set them up and took all the food and water out of the cages. I ask well why would they do that. She says because they are #1 in pet food sales. I say so why would they do that? I say it's great that your #1.She says cause they still do testing on animals. I say so have people eat the food..... She said get real lady and hung up on me. I just get any respect. LOL's Hmm I think Ims needs some more phone calls, ladies. What do you think? Guess what dog food I wont ever be buying! http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/video....=wm&speed=_med |
