You know, is it possible that people who live in the city or in subdivisions don't quite understand what us "country folk" have to offer our outside dogs? We have lots of land with beautiful views (not like the dog really cares about the view) for her to run and romp. Like I said, ignoring an outside dog is shameful. Loving an outside dog is not a sin and no one should be put down for having one (or more). |

and everybody has that right to do this and do that. I have been told that I should buy my yorkie more things an dit would make me a better owner...sorry that i dont buy Mason 10 outfits with shoes every week. Does that make me a bad owner? NO..he has food, shelter and love just like my labs do.. there pen is like a kingdom. All im trying to say is that saying were abuseing our animals because they live outside is stupid and shouldnt be said. |
well i have a beagle who is outside mostly but she does come in all the time! im not a bad dog owner at all though, cause im always outside playing with my dogs and giving them water and bathing them. but my other dog perla cant be inside, she gets too ancy and starts sratching the doors. i think you can have your dogs outside if you take proper care of them. although my dogs are out alot, they are also in here alot too. |
I agree with Kristy too. I think it is wrong to leave a dog outside all the time. My neighbors have 2 dogs they leave out no matter what the weather is like. |

Mine get the independence of going in and out freely through our doggy door but I would never intentionally leave them outside. They are so sensitive to the weather. I don't know how anyone could do that! |

Exactly!!! There are ppl who have inside dogs who are treated worse then outside dogs. Because it's so NOT cruel to leave your pup in a crate all day while you work. Yeah... right... or in an expen the size of my arms in a circle. Sheesh... If you're taking great care of your outside pet then there is absolutely nothing wrong w/leaving it outside 24/7. |
why would anyone keep any dog outside?????? |

If the dog is well taken care of outside, seemingly prefers to be an outside dog... then wtf is the problem? |

If someone says to me "what's the big deal... it's just a dog" they are going to catch hell from me because my dogs are my children just as my skinbabies are BUT they are still dogs. You wouldn't put a kid in a crate and call it "good for them" yet we do with dogs. Why? Because they are dogs. I love Tatum and Stormie just as much as all you love yours but we acknowledge that one is "inside dog" and one is "outside dog". Sure, Stormie would love to be "inside dog" too and my husband would really love it but such is not the case. There really is nothing wrong with that. It's just that the extreme opinion of "no dog outside ever ever" is a little ridiculous. But again, we can agree to disagree. |

I grew up in a home where we had dogs as large as St Bernards that were indoor family members. I personally find my big dogs are better behaved in the house than my rowdy little dogs. |
I think some big dogs like to be outside, and its ok to let them stay out, providing they are properly cared for with the type of bedding and runs, kennels, that they need water food attention, etc... BUT, I also think when harsh weather arives such as a very hot day, they should be brought in the house, whether the dog wants to come in or not for its safety, and they should have free run of a kennel of some type, NOT chains or ties. But, most of all I believe no dog should be outside in the winter months at all except to use the potty. The reason for this is 12 years ago when we first bought our house, the neighbors accross the ally had 2 white German Shepards, they left outside 24/7 and a really bad winter came along. I tried to call animal welfare and they said they would be out to check on them. They never came.... The poor dogs were found frozen to death the next morning. The people moved out shortly after this happened,so I dont know if they got into trouble or not.Our animal welfare here is a joke to say the least.:( |
Let me just make sure that my point is not misunderstood... I'm not saying that big dogs don't belong inside or should not be inside, but to each his own and I feel as though if the dog wants to be outside it should be allowed to. I also wanted people to understand that there are breeds that should NEVER stay outside and a yorkie is one of them. |

Sorry, I didnt specify,This was pertaining to the northern regions, such as In., Oh, Ny ect.... Also I'd like to add, cause my edit didnt work, This was also only about the large dogs.I have a bichon and a yorkie that are strictly indoors only unless I walk them on a leash or going out to potty, with me by their side at all times. I think ALL small dogs should be indoor dogs.:) |

Shelly! The black Lab is my Midnite's twin. So precious. I love Labs. They are SUCH good dogs! Thanks for posting that pic. |
I didnt say that people who left their dogs outside were abusive. I dont know each situation. But I think the people that leave their dogs out no matter what the weather is are neglectful. There is nothing anyone can say that will change my mind on that. I would rather see yorkies being babied than big dogs left out side in sub 0 weather. |

Ditto. Personally I think every outside dog should be brought INSIDE at night. As a child we had a beagle who stayed outside most of the time...but he came in EVERY night and never stayed outside during bad weather...be it rain, sleet, snow, or HEAT. Sometimes it's too dang hot for a dog to be outside. PS On Saturdays, you'd find him curled up with my little brother on the couch...watching Saturday morning cartoons. :) |
