broken heart.... im so stressed and sad right now. let me start from the begining.... 4 years ago we rescued my dog Perla from a farm. She slept in a horse stall in hay with her poop and pee. She was fed old cereal, hot dogs, and any leftovers they had. when we finally got her she needed to be bathed at least 6 times. she had 3types of worms and had ticks. now, 4 years later, perla is alive and happy. well, kind of happy. the vet told us she either has ADD, OCD, short term memory lost, or another type of defect. we love her one way or another. perla is the type of dog who needs lots of running space and other wild dogs to play with. we have a beagle named marie but she is 9 and cant play wild like that. we have a medium sized backyard, but she doesnt have enough space to just run off forever. she also likes to escape alot by digging. not only is it very dangerous, but where i live, having your dog walking around the street can get you fined and your dog taken away. So we are considering giving her away. My mom knows someone who has 3 dogs like Perla and a huge backyard. she isnt like miserable, but not as happy as she could be. I know that is probably best for her, but it would make me so sad. I love her so much, but she is like my child. you have to do best for your children, so i think she really might need this new home. sorry its so long and not about a yorkie, but you guys understand what im going through. :crying: :cry8: so, any comments or comforting words? |
You need to do whats best for that baby :) I don't know what i would do if i was in your situation, but i can imagine it must be a difficult decision to make! Good luck  And remember, we are here for you! |
What a hard decision :( I'm sorry you have to make it but it sounds like you have always done what is best for Perla and I'm sure you will find the strength to do it this time. Good Luck to you! |
Ah! Im so sorry and to love a dog like a child doesn't have to be a yorkie! can you visit her? and you said there are three other dogs? that would be so much fun for her to have someone to run and play with, what ever you decide will be in the best interest of you both, I recently had to give Ted back to his mom, (my daughter) so I know how sad this is but maybe you can visit her there and see how she adjusted and it may make you happy to see her loved and playing with the other three dogs. :) |
Awwwww....why can't you keep her ? And A vet said she's ADD ? That's really a new one to me - I would think lots of dogs have short term memory - but that's just part of being a dog ? My girls seem to remember EVERYTHING LOL - so could be very wrong in what I just said....but I've never heard that as a diagnosis for a dog. What's the reason you think she needs a new home ? So she can run free ? Is she a Yorkie ? Because running free would leave her vunerable to other prey animals - and if she IS a yorkie and lived on a farm - she's probably lucky to be alive. it sounds like you love her very much - unless you really think she'd be happier at your mom's friends home - you really have a hard decision......I hope things work out for you both |
i know im gonna miss her like crazy, but i think i need to do whats best for her. i want her to be happy. and its not like she is going to be half way across the world or anything, but i will miss her and i know im gonna cry. but i want her to be happy. why im scared is cause what if she gets tramatized(sp) by her new owners and new dog siblings? she will love them because even though she is scared of new people, she loves them when she sees they are good people. the only thing is im scared she will forget me. i know she probably will, cause she has short term memory lost. she sometimes barks at my mom. i just get so sad thinking, if she does leave me, that she will forget me. Thanks guys for support! |

aww Nicole I'm so sorry!! I know dogs don't have to be yorkies to be loved like babies....if I ever had to give away any of my dogs..I don't know how I'd feel. but I'd be miserable. I can say you are very brave/good hearted for putting her best interest before yourself. Good luck...I hope it all works out. :( |
Only you can decide what is best for her, but it sounds like she may be further stressed by a new home. Have you tried getting another opinion from a vet to see if there is anything they can do for her. The new owners may not be prepared for a high maintance pet. Good luck in your tough decision. |
You should do what you feel is right in your heart, and yes it maybe sad for you, but you might be doing her the right thing, and if you know that is it right for her, then you should let her go...i dont think they ever forget you...they will always remember those who are good to them.. It is hard to do the right thing when it comes to an animal, i had an old boy he was just a mix breed, and i know that it is diffrent, but he was old, he 3 husge fits one after the other, he went blind, deaf and could hardley walk, that was in the june...i had to have him put to sleep...and i kept him going for my sake....i did not want to let him go...he was a resue dog, my brother stole him from a farm...because the farmer use to beat him with a stick, all because his legs was deformed a bit... I know now that i should have taken him in the june, and done what was best for him...it is so hard to let them go...but you will know in your heart what is right for him...you can always stay in touch, and visit, and get pics, and send treats, he wont forget you... Oh Nicole I'm sorry, I know how hard this is for you. Maybe you can take her over for a few play dates first, then you will be able to see if she can adjust to the change. If things go OK, I'm sure you'll go visit. I really don't think she will forget you. Sometimes doing what's best, hurts the most, but then we understand it was best, and the pain goes away. Always remember we are here for ya!:2hearts2: |
thank you so much everyone! i shed a tear now everytime i look at her now. she always looks out of the fence and watches dogs go by. we dont have her outside cause we dont want her inside, its because she cant stand it in here, she just wants to run around. i cry thinking about her leaving me, but i think she needs it. she cant be all cooped up anymore with no other dogs to play with. its gonna break my heart, but i think its best. my mom is getting the number of the lady now. i will update you guys the whole way. |

OHHHHHHH, So sad... Goodluck on whatever u decide. It sounds to me that you are a wonderful mother to Perla. Sometimes we have to do things that we really don't want to for the well being of our loved ones and it sounds to me that is what u are doing. I am sorry you are going threw this and do hope it gets easier for you in the end. I know Perla is going to be okay. I think you are doing the right thing. You are a true Mommy. GoodLuck and I am sorry........... |
ok everyone, we made a decision... Mara, the lady who wants Perla, came to take her this morninng. We are gonna let her keep her for a few days and see how its goes. Mara knows Perla from before, and Perla took to her immediately, which is rare. Mara is a very kind lady and she fell in love with her, according to my mom who said she played with her and cuddled her too. i am sad now, but not crying. i thought i was gonna be a mess right now, but for some reason knowing that Perla is safe and in a good home made the whole idea a lot easier to deal with. its only temperary but if it works out, Perla might have found a new home. thanks for listening (you can see a picture of her in my siggy) |
