We have a bug eater on our hands. Does your yorkie eat bugs? My daughters 4 month old Yorkie has become obsessed with eating bugs. We live out in the sticks in Texas and since the weather has turned warm the darn bugs are all out and about. When you take her outside that seems to be the only thing she wants to do is hunt down and pick up bugs. She really likes the beetles that lay on their backs kicking their legs because they can't turn back over, I guess they are easier prey. She goes after spiders too. Basically anything that moves. She grabs them up and runs off to hide because she knows that we are going to fuss at her. Should we be concerned that this could be harmful to her or just let it run its course and hope that she grows out of it? She's not exactly the little girly girl we would like to pretend that she is with her cute little pink bow in her hair and a big beetle hanging out of her mouth. :D |
Mercy me! I heard a scuffle and then a scrunching sound last evening. The scuffle was my pack of 5 and the scrunching was Ilsa(Biewer) eating the thing. The thing was a large moth. About half way thru, she gagged and barfed. Bet that was more than you wanted to know, huh? |

I am grateful my baby isnt there yet, although she eats all kinds of other things. I must admit I would gross out and freak if she ate a spider(I am the worst arachnidphobic I know) good luck on this one as I have no ideas for help |
Large black ants! Sully loves to pounce on the large black ants that often get into our house. It's really funny b/c he paws at them like a cat! And what's kinda gross is, he chews on them but spits them out, for some reason. So when he spits them out, they're all curled up, dead. And they get stuck in his little hairs around his mouth! The other day I had to get my husband to pull out three tangled-up dead ants from Sully's mouth-area! LOL! Luckily, it hasn't happened since but it really grossed me out. |
Bug Eaters! LOL! My babies love to chase crickets and eat them! They chew them, then spit them back out half alive, chase themmore, then eat them! I asked my vet she said crickets are okay! we don't have many crickets...so we went to the pet store and bought some for our babies to chase around and eat!! They loved it! We haven't done it again, lately, though. no, beetles, they are juicy (ick!), I don't know if that would hurt your dog, but ask your vet. That's so funny! |
I once caught Ivy licking a dead lizzard it was so gross, I had to brush her teeth after that meal! |
 Bun eats Salamanders - and Freddy, a Yorkie we had growing up, used to chaise my brother's Salamanders (escapee from the fish tank) across the kitchen floor. Hey, they are hard wired to chaise and kill little things. Goes with the package. Another "delightful" thing BUn does is roll in all manner of animal waste - his preference is for Goose poopies! |
Tess LOVES bugs!! I swear one is going to make her sick. I try to keep her away from them, but she goes after them anyway. Especially the ants, although she doesn't spit them out.... she eats them! She got ahold of something the other day ... a stink but I think because she spit that thing out really quick. She actually caught a bee the other day and spit it out. I was afraid it might have stung her but she didn't cry and I didn't see any problems with her mouth or anything. Either way, it's gross and I hope she gets over it soon! :D |

I am so glad to read all these post, it makes me feel much better about my own dogs to know that they are not the only ones doing these gross things. :D |
Please be careful with bugs, some are poisonous (sp?) :(.Lady ate a small beetle when she was 5 months old and she was very sick for days:( I had no idea that anything could happen because of something like that, but it did and we were very worried. She stopped eating, she kept throwing up and she kept getting lethargic.I would really try to prevent your baby from eating them just in case. |
bugs I hate bug eaters!! LOL We used to have crickets in MD so bad. I had several who ate them all the time. Sometimes a bug eater would be sitting on my lap and I would give them a kiss only to see cricket legs caught in their whiskers. |
i got a bug eater too, well actually i think she tries to eat everythin, bugs, grass, sticks, leaves, pine cones, paper ANYTHING we call her a goat :p she also likes to paw at things like she's a cat she will pounce all over the place when she's after a bug. last night she was chashing a mosquito hawk and she was really wound up b/c she just had a bath anyways she was so busy chasing it she wasn't paying attention where she went and ran strait into the wall (not hard though) he was so funny she just shook her head a took off after it again. |
Missy thinks she is the hamster catcher. She killed one of nate's and then took it in front of hubbies chair. then one day she brought a mole to the door. Hubby says put her in the class where they go in hole after the rat. lol ugh whole things not my thingy. |
We have a bug eater Yuk. Sophie likes bugs too, and we watch her like a hawk...or at least try. Sometimes black ants get into the kitchen if our back door is open, and she pounces on them and scoops them up. Fortunately, she spits them out. I do hope she outgrows this as I'm concerned she'll get a hold of something that will make her sick or hurt her mouth. We've been trying to teach her to leave it/drop it, but with limited success. She's quite independent and has a mind of her own! |
